More than 300 women farmers and herdsmen went to their meeting in Cartagena (20/02/2017)

This Saturday, February 18, Cartagena hosted the Regional Meeting of Rural Women, held in the Faculty of Enterprise Sciences of the Polytechnic University.

The day was organized by the Association 'Water and Land' and the Coordinator of Associations of Farmers and Ranchers of the Region of Murcia (COAG), and also had the collaboration of the City.

In the various activities that were held during the day were the mayor, José López;

The Deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejón;

The Minister of Water, Agriculture and the Environment, Adela Martínez-Cachá, and the delegated councilor of Equality, David Martínez.

The meeting, whose motto was 'Women defending the rural and agricultural future of the Region of Murcia', and attended by more than 300 women farmers and livestock, had as main objective to give visibility to the role of women who carry out their professional activity In the rural environment, as well as to promote their participation.

Some of the issues that were discussed during the day were related to the main issues affecting these women.

Thus, we reflected on the empowerment of women in the rural world and labor opportunities within the agricultural and livestock sector.

Rights were also defended, such as equality of opportunity and pay, reconciliation of work and family life or shared ownership of farms.

The needs and proposals of the association 'Water and Earth' were also announced.

On the other hand, and in the same line, highlighted among the various papers that followed throughout the day those relating to the Strategic Plan for Equality of the Region of Murcia and the Law that precisely regulates shared ownership.

During the day, the deputy mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, was in charge of closing the event in which she thanked the work of COAG and the association Agua y Tierra for "promoting the empowerment and full equality of women in the rural world ", While announcing that next March 9 will be held the First Women's Day, Municipalism and Cooperativism of Cartagena, in collaboration with UCOMUR, in the Women's Nursery.
