Almost 200 young musicians are enrolled in the XX edition of Between strings and metals (31/01/2017)

The twentieth edition of the contest "Entre Cuerdas y Metales", organized by the Department of Youth and Conservatory of Music of Cartagena, has exceeded expectations in terms of registrations received, and is that 191 young students of professional music education will participate in this year.

Thus, the young people enrolled are distributed in the modalities of singing, guitar, percussion, wind, metal, string, piano, wind wood, flamenco cante, flamenco guitar and newly incorporated Chamber Music.

The contest consists of two phases, a tie and a final, which are held between March and April in the Auditorium of the Conservatory of Music in Cartagena and it will involve students from different conservatories throughout the Region such as Cartagena, Murcia , Lorca, San Javier, Jumilla, Cieza and Caravaca, as well as the Chaplin School of Music.

The entrance to the concerts will be free and free until capacity is completed.

On the other hand, they have increased by 33% over last year, so that a total of 15,050 euros is distributed, with a first prize in each of the individual modalities of 900 euros, a second of 400 euros and a third Of 150 euros.

As a novelty this year, in each of the individual modalities will be awarded a Special Prize 'City of Cartagena', valued at 100 euros, and will be awarded to the best participant born or resident in Cartagena who, arriving at the final in his specialty, Has not received any awards.

On the other hand, in Chamber Music will be awarded a first prize valued at 1,500 euros and a second of 700 euros.

The contest will start with the semifinals phase on March 23, with the specialty of woodwind, followed, the 27 of that month by metal wind and the 28, by chamber music.

March 29 will be the turn to the string specialty, on March 30 will do the same piano and on April 4, flamenco.

The finals will take place between April 3 and April 26, starting with singing, percussion and guitar, which will be performed both phases on the same day, followed by wind wood, metal wind, chamber music, piano, string and flamenco.

PRIZE DELIVERY AND CLOSING CONCERT

The Prize Giving and the Closing Concert will be held on Friday, May 12, at 8:00 p.m. in the Auditorium and Congress Hall El Batel, where the verdict of the jury will be announced in each of the modalities of the Contest, and where will be awarded the Extraordinary Prize Between Strings and Metals.

And is that the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena and the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena have decided to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of this Contest with the delivery of the 'Extraordinary Prize Between Strings and Metals', which aims to recognize the figure of those winners Of the competition Between Strings and Metals that, throughout the years after the achievement of its prize, have demonstrated a remarkable work in his musical trajectory.

This initiative seeks to put in value the excellence of those musicians related to the Contest whose projection and subsequent career have placed them in a privileged position, both nationally and internationally, deserving of such recognition.

In addition, the Closing Concert will be conducted by the Cartagena Chamber Orchestra, which will be in charge of starting the event, and the Cartagena Conservatory Orchestra, which will bring the finishing touch to this Closing Ceremony.

The two groups will be directed by the professor of the Conservatory and director of both formations, Andrés Pérez Bernabé.
