A mobile application shows the urban paths of Modernism and university buildings in Cartagena (12/01/2017)

Tourists and citizens can download today a digital app on their mobile phone through which they will access the information of the main modernist and university buildings of Cartagena.

The TouristiCT app is designed in a simple and intuitive way and serves as a guide to healthy physical activity while knowing the history of real estate.

The application was presented today by the mayor of Cartagena, José López, the promoter of the idea, Isidro Ibarra, and the rector of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), Alejandro Díaz, who explained that the objective is " Rich architectural heritage to turn Cartagena into a large outdoor museum and audioguided.

TouristiCT is part of the UR (University Tours) project and includes a healthy itinerary that connects the different UPCT campus and buildings together with 14 buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries by modernist architects such as Víctor Beltrí, Tomás Rico Valarino or Mario Spottorno, among others.

The buildings of the intelligent urban path are easily recognizable and identifiable.

During the itinerary there are personalized bronze footprints, made in the ProLam occupational center, of ASTUS (Individual Association of the Person with Disabilities).

The university route is identified with the colors blue and white.

The modernist route, with red and white.

The modernist path includes the Church of the Charity, the Palace Hall, the Aguirre Palace, the Regidor building, Casa Maestre, Casa Clares, Casa Cervantes, Casino, Casa Llagostera, Gran Hotel, Casa Pedreño, The Casa Dorda and the Casa Zapata (Carmelitas school).

The university tour includes rehabilitated historic buildings such as the Marina Hospital, the Antigones Barracks and the Maritime Instruction Barracks (CIM), headquarters of the Industrial Engineering, Telecommunication and Faculty of Science Schools.

Any citizen or tourist can download the application for free, both on Android and iOS.

To do this you have to register and create an account that allows to activate the scanning of any of the QR codes located in the main facades of the buildings of the routes.

Once the code has been read, the App indicates the possible options to follow as to the direction of the route while showing information about the building or property.

This information is presented in text and audio, performing the audioguide functions while contemplating the exterior or interior of the building, or continue the journey to the next point.

Both texts and audio guides are available in Spanish and English.

The app, developed by the SmartWay spin off, culminates the actions developed in the city on the occasion of the Year of Modernism.

This action has been financed by the City of Cartagena and the Casco Antiguo Municipal Society, through an agreement with the UPCT for the development of the project "Urban Intelligent Paths of the City of Cartagena."

The promoter of the UR project at the UPCT is the director of the Occupational Hazard Prevention Service of the UPCT, Isidro Ibarra.

The objective is the promotion of sustainable mobility based on the value and interconnection of existing trail networks to link university facilities at national and international level.

The application also allows to know the carbon footprint that the user has avoided walking instead of moving in means of using fossil fuels.
