The Joint Commission of Health claims the maintenance of the SUAP of Cartagena with all its staff (21/12/2016)

The Councilor for the area of Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, chaired Tuesday, December 20, the meeting of the Joint Commission on Health.

The reason for the meeting held at the Palace Hall and attended by the president of the Platform in Defense of Public Health Save the Rosell, Leandro Sánchez, and spokesmen of all municipal groups in the City of Cartagena, has been addressing the Situation of the Primary Care Emergency Service (SUAP) in Cartagena.

The meeting of the Health Commission has been configured as the immediate response to the relative information about an internal document of the Murcian Health Service (SMS) which indicated the desirability of reducing the number of doctors and nurses of the Primary Care Emergency Service ( SUAP) of the Cartagena Este health center, known as El Parchís, transferred to the dependencies of the Hospital del Rosell in July 2014.

This reduction would affect five doctors and nurses, limiting only the action of the SUAP to actions outside the center itself.

The measure of the regional government would coincide over time with the creation of a new Primary Care Emergency Service in the municipality of Murcia that would thus have nine emergency doctors and nurses, in addition to four guards and six drivers.

In this context, the members of the Joint Health Commission have unanimously decided to request the Ministry of Health to maintain the SUAP in Cartagena by means of its transfer to the Cartagena Oeste Health Center (Barrio de la Concepción) personal.

In this way, it would avoid their coincidence with the emergency department of the Hospital del Rosell.

In parallel, the representatives of this working group have agreed the willingness to cede the same number of workers as the rest of the SUAP of the Region, in order to equate them according to the necessities required.

The Joint Commission has agreed to position itself unanimously in a situation that would deplete the Rosell's SUAP, becoming a mobile UVI.

Thus, all the participants have agreed on the indispensable need to maintain this service because of its essential character and its ability to relieve the urgencies of hospitals.

Thus, maintenance of SUAP is an obligation towards the appropriateness of enhancing primary care that prevent hospital collapses.

This is why it is considered essential to maintain the service with current professionals, although, yes, it is contemplated a reduction of personnel to contribute to other less well-equipped SUAP, such as Fuente Álamo;

That yes, if this reduction measure is applied to the rest of SUAP of the Region.

After the meeting, Francisco Calderón, attended the media to inform the meeting that will keep the Minister of Health with members of the primary care emergency service and union representatives.

This meeting should address the reduction in the number of the Rosell SUAP.

At this juncture, Calderón has transmitted the decision of the Joint Commission not to compromise on a possible reduction of primary health care services in Cartagena.

For his part, Leandro Sánchez has expressed his satisfaction for the unanimity of all political groups.

The neighborhood representative has indicated the need to maintain the two SUAP services as they are.

If we have to remove some cash, like the rest of SUAP of the Region, we will do it.

But we can not afford to take half the staff.

If it does not work in its current location that moves to another, such as the West Health Center, but it must continue to function with all its strengths, continued Sánchez, who has said that the only way to avoid the collapses of emergency services Is to enhance primary care services.

The representative of the Platform in Defense of Public Health has concluded by clarifying that they will call all the demonstrations that are necessary for this situation to be reversed.
