The classes suspended on Monday in the educational centers of the municipality of Cartagena (18/12/2016)

The mayor of Cartagena, José López, announced this afternoon the suspension of classes in public and concerted schools of the municipality during the day of Monday, December 19, after assessing the situation with Local Police and Firefighters and make the relevant consultations with the Ministry of Education of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the Federation of Associations of Parents and Mothers of Students (FAPA).

The suspension for all the centers has been decided by the Municipal Government, following the express request of FAPA, in view of the meteorological forecasts for tomorrow and the situation of some of the roads of the municipality that are affected by floods;

And in order not to subject schoolchildren to unnecessary risks.

In order to adopt this decision, the mayor held a meeting this afternoon with Security Councilor Francisco Aznar and his department's technicians in the Security Park, as well as continuous contacts with the heads of the Autonomous Community and the parents and Mothers of students.

140 LITERS PER SQUARE METER

The 140 liters per square meter registered in the municipality of Cartagena during the last 48 hours keep on alert the municipal services of Local Police and Firemen, who during these two days have made about sixty interventions of assistance to citizens caught in vehicles crossing areas Flooding, basement piling, tree falls, cornice repairs, rocky landslides and roadblocks affected by floods.

The operations have been supervised by Security Councilor Francisco Aznar, who was traveling to the Emergency Coordination Center in the Security Park, and by the mayor himself, José López, who accompanied by technicians from the Department of Infrastructures and others Members of the Municipal Government, such as Juan Pedro Torralba, visited the mouth of the ramblas in the Mar Menor, the pumping station of the Plaza de España and other hot spots, in a continuous monitoring of the evolution of events.
