The Polytechnic consolidates its budget, approves its R & D Plan and proposes a restructuring of its departments (16/12/2016)

The Governing Council of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has approved a draft budget this afternoon, which must be ratified this afternoon by the Social Council of the entity, which consolidates the expenses and income of the UPCT in 53 million.

A figure similar to the current financial year, but far from the "financial well of 48 million we had in previous years," says Emilio Trigueros, Vice Chancellor of Economic and Strategic Planning.

"The budget of the UPCT for 2017 has three main lines.

The first, in line with the objective of the Multi-year Financing Plan, is the transformation and promotion of staff, "explains Trigueros.

Secondly, the beginning of the construction project of the new School of Architecture and Building, which in October 2017 will already have a winning design of the ideas contest so that in January 2018 works begin, which should be completed in June 2019.

The third column of the accounts is the improvement of R & D activities, "with greater investment in equipment and personnel to help and give muscle to our research groups," says Beatriz Miguel, Vice Chancellor of Research.

This Governing Council has also approved the R & D Plan of the UPCT.

The rectoral team led by Alejandro Díaz has also presented today his intention to face a restructuring of the departments of the Polytechnic, which will entail a significant reduction of them.

"The objective is to redirect and adapt the management capacities of our faculty to the current needs of the University, which are clearly marked by quality, promotion and internationalization," as the Rector has argued.

Better coordination of the centers and improvement of the administrative services are other results that are expected to be achieved with the restructuring, which is inspired by those carried out by other universities, such as the polytechnics of Catalonia or Madrid, and in the structure of Pompeu Fabra one of the ones that have better results.

A working team composed of the vice-rectors of Teaching, Academic Planning and Planning and by the manager will develop the final proposal, which will seek to approximate the rate of full-time professors by department to the average of other polytechnic universities.
