The Santa Florentina Market hosts sensitization activities on the consumption of sustainable artisanal fishing (14/12/2016)

The Columbares Association and the City Council of Cartagena, through the Department of Tourism, Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, start the project Fish with Art to carry out activities to raise awareness during the Christmas holidays that promote responsible consumption of fish and shellfish Among the Carthaginians.

The project has the purpose of informing the public of the social, environmental, cultural and gastronomic value of artisanal fishery caught on the coast of Cartagena and promoting its consumption among the people of Cartagena, paying special attention to lesser known species or Lower commercial value.

"This project also wants to put into value the Marine Reserves of fishing interest declared on our coast, spreading their ecological values ​​and the social and environmental role that plays in the regeneration of fishing resources," said the Councilor for Tourism, Agriculture, Rural Development And Fishing, Obdulia Gómez.

It is a communication and public awareness initiative that contributes to the survival of the artisanal fleet on the coast of Cartagena and promotes a higher valuation of local fish, encouraging the consumption of fish and shellfish with the collaboration of the hotel sector and local fishmongers.

Aimed at the entire population of the municipality of Cartagena, this campaign will involve key sectors such as artisanal fishermen, fresh fishmongers, restaurateurs and restaurateurs and the media.

Among its activities, the project carries out different theatrical actions in the Santa Florentina market fishery on 14 and 16 December, in a fun, fun and participative way, to make known the traditional fishing species of the season, its gastronomic value And the values ​​associated with proximity fish.

The Councilor for Tourism, Obdulia Gómez, will attend the action to be held on December 16 at 11.15 p.m.

Over the next few months, the Fish Art project will continue to carry out other actions of interest such as monthly radio programs to address key aspects of sustainable artisanal fishing.

In these spaces will be counted on the participation of professionals from the fishing sector, researchers and gastronomists who will offer listeners information on the ecological aspects of the species, the fishing gear used as well as gastronomic recommendations for their culinary use.

In addition, through the days of promoting responsible fish cooking, the benefits and values ​​of artisanal fishing will be disseminated in order to bring our fish closer to our table through tasty traditional recipes.
