The Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena also points to Science Week (09/11/2016)

The Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena will also participate in the Science Week 2016, and it does so with the Workshops The feast of Apicius.

All to the stoves and The funerary world in Antiquity.

The mysterious case of the necropolis, on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November.

DAY 12 NOVEMBER 2016 FROM 11 TO 14 HOURS

The feast of Apicius is a didactic workshop that reveals the food and gastronomy of the Roman era, through the objects that are exposed in the museum related to this theme.

It is developed in two parts: The first consists of a tour of the permanent collection of the museum, structured in stops, following the instructions in the didactic notebook, in which Apicius points out the pieces that are related to the Roman gastronomy and the customs related to the food.

In the second part the participants in the workshop will perform a theatrical performance of a Roman banquet.

The text reproduces all the rites and customs that were made in a dinner typical of a Roman patrician family.

The characters will be: the owners of the house, a couple of guests, the servants, the cook Apicius and his assistant slaves, buffoons, dancing slave girls and musicians in costumes provided by the museum.

DAY 13 NOVEMBER 2016 FROM 11 TO 14.30 HOURS

The funerary world in antiquity.

The mysterious case of the Necropolis, is a didactic workshop with which it is tried to show the importance that death has in the study of History and Archeology.

The funeral rites and customs that each people have given their dead are loaded with symbolism and allow us to know better their way of life, their values ​​and their thinking.

The activity has three parts: the first takes place in the didactic classroom, where the monitor explains, assisted by audiovisual means, how the world of death has been conceived from Prehistory to the Byzantine Age.

Students are then given a didactic notebook to carry out the activities.

The second part takes place in the museum room.

The participants are divided into teams and given to each team a replica of a tombstone, which they have to locate in the museum.

Then each group will explain to the others the characteristics of the inscription, such as the name of the deceased, their social status, years and all the information they provide.

Finally the groups will participate in a game, in which, through clues, they will find in the museum the data necessary to solve a mysterious murder.

A WEEK FOR SCIENCE

SeCyT'16, The Science and Technology Week of the Region of Murcia, celebrates its 15th edition, organized by the Ministry of Education and Universities through the Seneca Foundation as part of the Regional Program of Scientific and Technological Culture, with the Collaboration of fifty public and private institutions and agencies.

Administrations, universities and public research organizations, companies and technology centers, museums, educational establishments, foundations, associations, media, scientists and disseminators of science ... up to a total of forty-six institutions and organizations involving several hundred Professionals of the science.
