The Department of Archaeological Heritage continues to work visited the site of Cueva Victoria (21/09/2016)

The area councilor for Culture and Heritage, Ricardo Segado, and the municipal coordinator of Historical Heritage and Archaeology, Mari Carmen Berrocal, visited the site of Cueva Victoria.

During the tour they were accompanied by a group of professors and students of Geology at the German University of Mainz, who are conducting a study on the dating of rock materials that make up the cave and paleoclimatic reconstruction of the same.

Mowing and Berrocal been interested in the various jobs to do during the day, such as collecting small samples of rocks inside the cavity, which will later be studied in the laboratory of the German University, desintegrándolas laser and analyzing individually it's components.

After the visit, the mayor, who has invited German students and teachers to present their work in Cartagena once you finish, said that within the firm commitment of the municipal government to recover and to value the archaeological heritage of the municipality, the Cueva Victoria deposit, located on the slopes of Cabezo de San Ginés de la Jara, is an asset of the first order.

In this regard, he highlighted Segado that are already conducting relevant studies for stabilization of their hits, with the intention of making it visitable soon.

This work was done in collaboration with its main excavator, Luis Gibert, Faculty of Geology at the University of Barcelona.
