The Councillor for Education requires asbestos from schools in the municipality of Cartagena withdraw (26/08/2016)

The Councillor for Education, David Martinez, has asked the Ministry of Education to change covers schools in the municipality of Cartagena containing asbestos to be harmful to the health of students and teachers.

Martinez has indicated the need to carry out this change also in Cartagena, since the Ministry has already performed these actions in places like Murcia and Librilla.

In total there are 28 schools that have asbestos cement covers, so the council has stressed the importance of changing this material because it is playing with the health of students and teachers.

The most notable case is the delcolegio of Jose Maria de la Puerta, who owns a sports hall with an indoor asbestos dust generates harmful to health by hitting balls on the ceiling.

The other schools that have asbestos structures are schools in La Aljorra, Gabriela Mistral, Gardens, Luis Vives, Miguel de Cervantes, Our Lady of Sorrows, San Antonio Abad, San Cristobal, San Francisco Javier, Santiago Apostle, Vicente Medina Anibal, Asdrubal, Macher, Carthago, Mediterranean, San Isidoro, San Fulgencio, Santa Florentina, Santa Maria del Buen Aire, Antonio Ulloa, La Conception, Mare Nostrum, San Felix, Stella Maris and Virgen del Carmen.

WORKS IN SCHOOLS

David Martinez has indicated that the refurbishment and maintenance being made the 32 schools in the municipality would be completed before the start of the academic year.

Responding to questions from reporters, the mayor reported that it has already made the draft earthworks for the construction of a new center in La Aljorra, waiting for the tender by the Ministry of Education.
