YUZZ Polytechnic University of Cartagena rewarded with a trip to Silicon Valley to Natoc (23/06/2016)

The startup Natoc driven by Jerome Navarro and Pedro Torres has been chosen as the best idea of ​​YUZZ Polytechnic University of Cartagena center and has obtained a place to travel to Silicon Valley with the other 48 participants brightest of the current issue of YUZZ.

The program, run by the International Centre Santander Entrepreneurship (CISE), is sponsored by Banco Santander, through Santander Universities, and collaboration at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

The jury selected the project Natoc as the best center YUZZ Polytechnic University of Cartagena, space in which for five months 25 students work on developing their business ideas.

Natoc is an innovative wireless device that allows communication easily in various sectors, such as medical, shipping, commercial, construction, industry, etc.

The project renews the traditional design concept and walkie-talkie 'Wrist-Talkie' or 'bracelet chatty', transforming the heavy and cumbersome device for a more comfortable, simple and attractive format.

"We are working on the functional prototype and hope to market the product which comes at a price between 50 and 60 euros year," says Jerome Navarro.

"We already have customers and investors interested," he says.

"We worked hard but did not expect to win because there were many good projects," says teammate Pedro Torres.

Both are excited to be able to visit large companies in Silicon Valley and the possibility of making contacts, "which is the most important."

YUZZ the program include presentations by experts, "all very interesting," they say, and advice from tutors specialized in various sectors of the projects.

They helped them Lorenzo Javier Martinez-Moya, telecommunications engineer and CFO Gives Engineering, which he so excited that the idea has become a partner in the business project.

Smart shirt to prevent heart disease

The choice of winners was decided last night after submission of projects chaired the rector Alejandro Diaz Morcillo, accompanied by Juan Manuel Nunez Blanco, manager of the Territorial Institutions in Valencia and Murcia Banco Santander.

The jury also distinguished the Kolosos project, a smart shirt to prevent heart ailments measuring in real time via infrared, muscle oxygen saturation.

Its creators, students of the School of Telecommunication of UPCT Mari Carmen Fuentes and Francisco Romero, will compete for the national award of Yuzz women entrepreneurship program.

"The goal is to prevent heart problems as I suffered," says Francisco, who suffered from heart palpitations as a result of overexertion made in a marathon.

Silicon Valley, an ecosystem of opportunities

The purpose of the trip to Silicon Valley for the winners is to inspire and empower young entrepreneurs to accelerate the development of its startups, providing connections to the internationalization of their projects and seeking funding.

The program includes visits to companies like Google, LinkedIn or Facebook and lectures at prestigious universities like Berkeley or Stanford.

The 49 winners will also visit the Spain Tech Center (STC) -driven by Banco Santander, ICEX and Red.es-, whose goal is to facilitate the implementation of technology-based SMEs in Spanish in one of the most dynamic and competitive environments in the world, accelerating its internationalization process.

Upon his return, the 49 young people attending the Group Santander City Boadilla del Monte where composed of representatives of Banco Santander, ICSE and associates jury will select the winners of YUZZ 2016. The three best entrepreneurs will receive a prize (30,000, 20,000 and 10,000 euros) to enable them to accelerate their projects.

A springboard for innovative ideas

YUZZ offers free training and support for five months to young people between 18 and 31 years for them to develop their own projects in 47 YUZZ high performance centers across Spain.

In its previous six editions they were created more than 500 companies participated in the 2015 edition 900 entrepreneurs with 710 projects.

In each issue involved about 1,000 young entrepreneurs on average.

CISE (Santander International Entrepreneurship Center) is a center that encourages entrepreneurship and promotes the generation of startups.

Through innovative training programs that incorporate agile methodologies and real experiences, ICSE stimulates creativity of people and promotes innovation.
