National Award for UPCT engineer who designed the wireless network wimax Murcia (22/06/2016)

The Official College of Telecommunications Engineers (COIT) delivers this Friday alumnus of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Ruben Palomares Award ALTRAN Best Thesis in Network Functions defined by Software for its design of the implementation of a wimax network in Murcia.

The project that Palomares has completed the degree in Telecommunications Engineering includes the specifications that drafted the Computing Service of the City of Murcia, in working the alumnus, for the creation of a network of wireless broadband in the city, which gives both service Consistory and citizens.

The network designed by the 'teleco' UPCT allows remote control of robots, such as irrigation equipment in gardens, whose programming remotely and can be changed depending on the moisture sensors available.

The implemented technology also allows other telematic negotiations, as control of video cameras, electrical meters or parking meters.

Centralized in the building of the Glorieta, with stations in the pavilion Prince of Asturias, the Palacio de los Deportes and the firehouse Infante and nodes distributed throughout the city, the network provides Wi-Fi access to citizens on the road public, also reaching the districts through ADSL circuits.

"The Internet connection speed is limited by legal requirements, not to compete with private operators," says alumnus.

Ruben Palomares ended the second promotion of technical engineering UPCT in Telecommunications in 2003 and is official City of Murcia since 2007. The wimax network designed was implemented in 2010 at a cost close to 800,000 euros.

Much of the potential uses that included the draft Palomares may be put into practice with vertical solutions Smart City project of the City of Murcia, which they can use for this the technology implemented according to the project alumnus of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

The COIT deliver its annual awards on Friday June 24 in Madrid, where, for the third consecutive year, the UPCT will be represented among the winners.

In 2015 and 2014, the national association of 'Telcos' awarded doctoral theses developed in Cartagena.
