They choose among more than 350, the project of two entrepreneurs in the UPCT to reuse brine (17/06/2016)

Entrepreneurs of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Ricardo Martinez and Cristina Varona, students of Agricultural Engineering, have been selected by the Government of Navarra to participate in the program acceleration Orizont, which will support them to launch their business idea reuse brine generated by desalanizadoras.

Have up to 110,000 euros of financial support, six months training for entrepreneurship in a business incubator Tudela, the largest agrifood polygon Spain, free accommodation throughout the process and access to laboratory and a network of mentors and corporate partners specialized in the sector.

The project developed by Ricardo and Cristina is called 'Useful Wastes' and is based on transforming waste water desalinization to obtain a lower cost and convert the waste into other products with high commercial value.

"The goal is to both reduce costs of desalination by the recovery of waste and prevent discharges of brine to preserve the environment," explain the two fourth graders degree in Agricultural Engineering and Biological Systems.

"Since in high school a teacher remarked to me the importance of reusing water waste, I've been thinking about how to use the brine and thanks to the expertise in electrochemical engineering acquired during the race we found a way to generate a product with commercial value for the chemical industry, "Ricardo explains.

In this edition of the program Orizont they have attended more than 350 projects from more than twenty countries.

Representatives of the Government of Navarra and major food companies (Mahou San Miguel, Viscofan, Ebro Foods, Campus Iberus, CNTA and Coca Cola Iberian Partners) chose 'Useful Wastes' as one of the eight who will be helped for commercial release.

The other seven projects show the overall program, because they come from Navarra, Catalonia, Greece, Venezuela and Argentina.

"We spotted by Linkedin, went to present the project and we did thought when he was selected," admits Cristina.

"The other candidates were older than us and many had business experience," he adds.

Both Murcia students have developed their business idea in YUZZ entrepreneurship program, coordinated by the Office of Entrepreneurship and Technology Based Companies (OEEBT), in the Department of Santander Entrepreneurship - UPCT.

For five months, they were among the 25 students YUZZ Center Cartagena, placed a workspace to develop their projects, interacting with other entrepreneurs and receiving training from a network of more than 200 professional experts who advised, along with an individual tutor, in carrying out the business plan.
