Education bring the native natural environment to school (15/06/2016)

Starting next year 2016/17 the Department of Education of the City of Cartagena, along with its counterpart in La Union, initiated a program of educational activities in natural environments and environmental park Huerto Pio mine Las Matildes belonging to the Sierra Minera Foundation.

In one of these enclaves, elHuerto Pio, the Councillor for Education, David Martinez has released all the details of all the activities that will bring the natural environment of the area to schoolchildren in primary and secondary, both Cartagena and La Union.

School may know part of the historical and natural heritage of the area discovering, for example, how a Ferris wheel, one of the most emblematic works of Pius Huerto, along the ancient irrigation pond.

Discovered, in turn, a number of native species, many of them protected, among which the Tetraclinis articulata, better known as Sabina Mora.

You can also select seeds and make farmers for a day, plantandosus own plants.

All this contributes to that new generations are knowledgeable about the richness of our natural heritage and the importance of preserving it.

According to the mayor of Education, it is vital that environmental issues work together, in this case with the City of La Union, because in nature borders do not exist and the value of natural species that we share must put it on the rise and that is known by all citizens.

In addition to the Councillor for Education, the informative event was attended by Carmen Riquelme, Councillor for Education of the City of La Union;

and the representative of the Sierra Minera, Pedro Martos Foundation.

These activities are supported by the Life-Tetraclinis-Europa Project.

Forests Tetraclinis articulata in Europe, a European project with the collaboration of the City Council of Cartagena and the Sierra Minera Foundation, along with the general direction of Natural Environment of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, the University of Murcia and naturist association ANSE.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

To carry out this environmental education program the following activities:

Visit the Garden Pius Environmental Park.

Here the school know in a fun and different vegetation teaching environment represented in the park, emphasizing the Tetraclinis articulata or Sabina Mora, biology and impacts it has undergone over time.

In addition, students will learn the ethnographic values ​​of the area in the park museum.

Activities in schools.

In schools educational material and educational booklets for both teachers and pupils in primary and secondary where they will present the most important aspects in conservation Tetraclinis be distributed.
