The City assumes the momentum of the excavations of the Roman amphitheater (10/06/2016)

The City Council is officially this morning, the only competent in promoting and seeking funding for the excavation of the Roman Amphitheatre Cartagena, following the liquidation and dissolution of the so-called Foundation Amphitheatre Romano-Museum of Contemporary Art Murcia, as has noted the mayor, Jose Lopez, at the end of the meeting at which the procedure has been verified.

The project will be presented to the Ministry of Culture and serve as a basis for the development of a master plan in which the regional authorities can check its importance at the local, district and regional level and provide the necessary funds.

Lopez is convinced that the excavation and restoration of the Roman Amphitheatre attract new visitors to the city and the region and place to Cartagena again in the archaeological and cultural map of the Spanish Mediterranean.

He has also advocated that the Autonomous Community give the priority it deserves within projects 1 percent cultural adding new attractions to the city of Cartagena and the Region.

The Roman Amphitheater in Cartagena, along with the already excavated and put in value Teatro Romano, the Barrio del Forum and the windlass, one of the great archaeological sites of the city, which give an idea of ​​the importance that Carthago Nova in Hispania Roman.

It was built on the east side of the hill of the Conception in times of the Flavian dynasty.
