The Botanical Knowledge People in the municipality of Cartagena, Gregory Rabal comes to Luzzy within the program Read, think, imagine (31/05/2016)

Continues Wednesday June 1 programming Read, think, imagine, organized by the Department of Culture, with the presentation at the Library of Luzzy of the work of Gregorio Rabal Saura, The Botanical Knowledge People in the municipality of Cartagena, presentation will take place at 20.00 hours, in which the author will be accompanied porJuan José Martínez, professor of Plant Production UPCT, and Anselmo Sánchez, professor and researcher.

This work is the result of a long process of fieldwork in whose pages is captured part of our collective memory of oral tradition, knowledge-based society has had regarding plants that have lived in close and, on many occasions, facing relationship.

¿N the book we talk about made plants culture that yield their strictly natural character to fit the mental and material traditional communities structure, accompanying the man in his evolution as an individual and as a social being, from its early years to the end of his lifetime.

Our memories, experiences and customs related plants belong to the immaterial part of our cultural heritage.

In this book, the reader will perceive the use categories given to our plants and we can not forget that the book is a catalog of botanical species, hence the importance of an extensive section on our etnoflora.

Shorter, but no less remarkable are those chapters devoted to the intervention of our plants in the local folklore, religion or children's entertainment.

Gregorio Rabal Saura has a degree in Ancient History and Archaeology and professor of Social Sciences, Geography and History.

He has participated in the organization of the four congresses of Ethnography of the Campo de Cartagena.

Published in journals such as The Journal Murcia Anthropology and Folklore Magazine.

His ethnographic research around the world of plants and their presence in traditional culture has led to the publication of two monographs: When the check Chicory flower and the popular botanical knowledge in the municipality of Cartagena.
