The UPCT creates interactive games for mobile used to train and evaluate students (19/05/2016)

A notice reaches the mobile of a student from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).

Another student is challenging.

Both are engaged in a competition that, contrary to what it may seem, is part of their training and academic evaluation.

The 'gamification' (learning through play) is one of the methodologies of multimedia learning being developed by the Center for Production of Digital Content (CPDC) of the Polytechnic and today has been presented to the CEOs of Universities and Educational Innovation Community Autonomous, Juan Monzó and Ana Millán.

UPCT Play, the game developed by the CPDC, which is to make known a video that recreates duels type 'western' in the halls of the University, is already used within the platform of educational content online that experimentally students are using a group of the subject Human Resources degree in Business Administration and Management.

Another group is following the traditional teaching method to compare the results empirically.

"Students are randomly challenged, can respond at any time and place with the result of the challenges a ranking score that is taken into account in the assessment of the subject is established," says Daniel Perez, head of R & D + i of the CPDC.

The CPDC has also developed a game face for team challenges, in which phones are used as a remote control.

"These inverted teaching methodologies in which the contents are available online, motivate student participation in the classroom and what we have observed is that more students come to the classroom than before," says Perez.

"The teachers of any subject can register their own questions and export the game to any matter," explains Perez.

"To play will not be necessary to download an 'app', but that will be accessed directly from the Virtual Classroom of the University," he adds.

"This and other interactive methodologies allow teachers to track student study pace and perform automated assessments" he concludes.

"The next course will launch a contest for high school students are reten each other with questions of secondary and high schools," forward Mathieu Kessler, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Communications.

"The best of each center will challenge each other and can reach the final to be celebrated in the UPCT" he continues.

"Interactive content online investing and revolutionized the format and content of classes" says Kessler.

"This initiative and Acadia European project, to spread the teaching innovation to African universities have become the UPCT a benchmark" highlights.
