Cartagena lit the Olympic torch in 2016 Olimpiade involving twenty schools (18/05/2016)

Athletics will star on Tuesday May 24 in a day inspired by the Olympics, where 24 schools will participate actively in promoting sports activity.

The Olimpiade 2016 presented in this second edition of a sporting event in which the Olympic torch will light up and enjoy the event through different tests.

On the occasion of the Olympic Year 2016, the Department of Sports City of Cartagena has organized a new edition of Olimpiade, a collection activity within the program Approach to elite athlete, ADE, which was presented this morning by the Councillor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, sports coordinator, Eduardo Armanda, and the president of Athletics Club Cartagena, Alfredo Castilla.

From 9:00 to 14:00, the Municipal Athletic Track will bring together 480 high school athletes 5th and 6th grade in juvenile and child categories, who will perform sprints, 500 meter relay, long jump and height and shot put and discus, new mode that replaces the ball toss the previous edition.

Barcelona original torch 92 will be in town to light and an Olympic medalist is transported, still to be confirmed, from the Central Pavilion at the athletics track.

The parade of athletes, Olympic Oath and awards at the closing will add to the lighting of the torch to symbolize a genuine Olympics in Cartagena.

The aim is to promote a sports day with the practice of physical activity with athletics as the protagonist, where judges also participate ElCano Club athletes and volunteers TAFAD training cycles, or the Mediterranean UCAM Cartagena IES.

Participating schools in this Olimpiade 2016 are Azorín, Carmelitas, Garden City, Cuatro Santos, Feliciano Sanchez, Franciscans, Gabriela Mistral, La Asomada, La Vaguada, Luis Calandre, Mare Nostrumb, Marist, Miralmonte, Narval, Salesians, San Feliz, San Fulgencio, San Ginés de la Jara, San Isidoro and Santa Florentina, San Vicente de Paul, St. Florentina, Stella Maris, Vicente Ros and Virgen del Carmen.

This sporting event thanks to the management of the ADE program, which in recent editions has brought the sport to more than 25 thousand students, develops many young people who participate in these events not only schools but sports clubs that make their contribution the ADE can move forward, as indicated by the sports coordinator, Eduardo Armada.

We have the best athletes of the region in Cartagena thanks to projects like this, the effort of clubs, teachers, technicians of the Department, which make Cartagena is a benchmark in athletics and education for young people, has Navy indicated, adding the great task of coordinating technical and Francisco Sanchez for organizing events like the Olympics.

The first edition of this Olimpiade, which took place in 2012 on the occasion of the Olympic Games in London, brought together about 4,500 people around the event, demonstrating the wide acceptance of young people actively involved.
