The quality of the beaches of the municipality of Cartagena each year attracts thousands of tourists and citizens do enjoy a unique setting to enjoy the sun and sea.
This consideration is reflected in the report of Blue Flags this year 2016, the municipality granted a new environmental quality certification already has 11 beaches.
The Blue Flag annually certifies the environmental quality of different beaches in the quality of bathing water, environmental education and information, environmental management and safety and services and facilities.
To those already awarded in previous years in the municipality as Pine Creek, Levante and Poniente best Islands, Mar de Cristal, Cala Cortina, San Gines, Levante Cabo de Palos, Isla Plana, Playa Honda and Paradise Beach adds the headquarters of La Azohía, Cartagena placing next to Sanxenxo in Galicia and the Spanish municipality with more blue flags of Spain.
Deputy Mayor and president of the Municipal Institute of Coastal Services IMSEL, Ana Belén Castejon, stressed lagran work of the City of Cartagena for the care and protection of quality services bathing areas, compliance with standards of water quality , security and general services and environmental management, which is recognized with eleven awards to our coast where the highest standards of professionalism and efficiency are used.
Castejon has highlighted the respect for the environment with the aim that these bathing areas become tourist references to further improve and expand our offer of sun and beach, and to continue to attract thousands of tourists during the summer and the rest of the year who come to enjoy the tranquility and quality of our waters, and the beauty of the corners of our coastline.
The Blue Flag is developed by the SEF since 1987 that promotes and rewards participation in voluntary environmental initiatives of municipal authorities, local people and visitors and operators in the tourism sector.
In total, the Region of Murcia has 40 Blue Flag beaches, a total of 16 beaches having been added in the last three years.
Cartagena is the municipality of the region that has a greater number of environmental quality certifications beaches.
