The mayor invites writers to be eyes and voice of history in Cartagena (26/02/2016)

There are of those people who forget their history because it is doomed to repeat it , with these words of General Napoleon the mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, he highlighted the importance of the role that new writers would acquire his appointment in the event which took this morning, Feb. 28, in the hall of the Palace hall.

Francisco José Franco Fernández, Juan Ignacio Ferrández, Luis Miguel Perez Adam and José Sánchez Conesa have been awarded the titles of official chroniclers and have delivered them, in turn, the Golden Shield of the city. The new fedatarios come to fill the void that the death of José Monerri occurred in the historical chronicle of Cartagena two years ago.

The act of appointment of the four chroniclers was chaired by the mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez;

and he has also had the presence of Deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejon;

Lopez stressed the importance of historiographical work of the chroniclers who have to write and describe the daily events, from historical landmarks to everyday, not forgetting that small places also have, they are part of our present and build our future.

The figure of the writer, is according to Lopez, a person who likes to count, usually in writing, things that have happened before their eyes. That is why it is not strictly a historian, the chroniclers place us in time and contextualize our past, give the consciousness of what we are, were and will be.

After the words of the mayor, the accdiental secretary general of the plenary, Bernardo Muñoz, has been in charge of reading the agreement of 30 December 2015, by which unanimously decided the appointment of four chroniclers, and d staking the extensive resumes of all of them and the tasks that have been playing until today and that support them as merecederos of distinction.

These tasks include the development of books and articles in specialized journals belonging to different cultural partnerships and collaboration with various local media radio and print media.

From the famous Polybius, highlighted as the first chronicler of Cartagena, through I sidoro Valverde, Alberto Colao, Francisco Cascales, to his immediate predecessor, José Monerri, the chroniclers recalled in his speeches the value of his predecessors who conspired masterfully symbiosis historian and journalist to testify in his chronicles the history of the city.

They have been, in turn, creators of valuable archival heritage and immense where they will be supported to perform their tasks and thanks to the work of the Archivist of Cartagena, Cayetano Tornel and his team remains.

Recalling the words of Alberto Colao, Perez Adam, it has listed a declaration of principles that should govern the work of the writer among them, not to confuse history with cartoons, live remote from politics and work with antisepsis, objectively, with great care demands and inspires truth, concealing one 's judgments or personal judgment.

Ferrández's speech has focused on the golden age that lived Cartagena early last century, a silver age, as would define the Cartagena historian José María Jover, and that ranked as the ninth Spanish city.

In addition, he has not lost the opportunity to recall illustrious figures and characters that have contributed to the greatness of the city as the writer and academic Carmen Conde, which, according to the chronicler, attributed his main value to belong to Generation Silver Spanish lyrics and creative vanguard of the popular university in Cartagena.

In addition, this appointment is a further boost to the creation of the future Chair of History of Cartagena that the city and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena want to promote for college to acquire knowledge about the culture, history and heritage of the city and mutual collaboration in cultural events, tourism promotion and development of research relevant to public administration is established.
