The UPCT presents its European Project Office to the City of Cartagena (22/02/2016)

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) today introduced its municipal officials European Projects Office. (OPECT) This service has achieved since its inception in 2009, nearly twenty of R + D + I with funding for UPCT more than 4.6 M € from the European Union.

The rector, José Antonio Franco;

Vice Chancellor for International Relations and Development Cooperation, Jose Manuel Ferrandez, and vice president of Infrastructure, Equipment and Sustainability, José Pérez, offered the mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, support and collaboration of the educational institution to achieve European funds benefit of the city.

The fundamental mission is to support OPECT Groups I + D + I in achieving and managing European and international funds, and advising on international projects of institutional interest, within themes such as popular science and innovation .

Boosting congresses

On the other hand, the Council has submitted to the office of Municipal UPCT Congress.

The purpose of Cartagena council is to support researchers to increase "exponentially" the number of scientific conferences that annually hosts Cartagena.

As he explained by the Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure, Equipment and Sustainability, researchers at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena organized annually between 2 and 6 conferences.

In this regard, he said that the office will help them in the task of organizing national and international conferences, coordinating the work "so that the number will increase exponentially."

During the presentation, the director of the Office of Municipal Congress, Antonio Garcia, said that the main purpose of the office is "to improve the numbers," and that in the next 50-60 years congresses were organized in 2015 exceeded in Cartagena and 10,000 congressmen gathered in the port city.

"We note that in the scientific and research field there is a revival of activity," said Garcia, who also noted that meetings related to the health sector and other sectors will be organized in 2016.

The mayor of the port city said that this office will offer advice and it is intended that the City Council to work together with the Chamber of Commerce and the University for "move and attract people" Cartagena.
