The Ministry of Family allocates 10.2 million euros to the attention of 1,075 people with disabilities in Cartagena (18/02/2016)

The Minister for Family and Equal Opportunities Thomas Violante, visited the Day Centre of the Association for Community Integration of people with mental illness in Cartagena and Murcia (Apices) and the Center for Persons with Disabilities Canteras, under the IMAS .

Thomas Violante said that the Community allocates more than 10.2 million euros to cover 1,075 people from this group in the town, and said "the commitment we have with the associations working for the development and empowerment of people with disabilities ".

The IMAS has concert with Day Centre Asido Cartagena, Astus Prolam and apexes, three centers with a capacity of 416 seats, of which 308 are funded by the Ministry.

Other resources are supporting the Ministry residence for dependent people with terminal HIV disease, the 'Foundation of San Pedro Store Asylum Torre Nazareth', the residence for people with intellectual disabilities Astus 'The Shelter' and this sheltered housing association.

For children with impaired development and their families is being paid service early intervention with Asteamur, autism, and the Early Childhood Center ananda, through an agreement with Fasen, the Center for Child Development and Early Virgin Astus charity, as well as the Center for Child Development and Early Asido Cartagena, through the agreement with full inclusion.

As regards own resources, the IMAS maintains Canteras residence with a capacity of 80 seats.

Thomas Violante said that "the Ministry this year plans to invest 80 million euros to actions for people with disabilities, an endowment that will translate into an increase in seats. For the year 2016 we plan a total increase of 431 seats, the 207 that they are the result of the expansion of ongoing projects and 224 newly created ".

"We will finish 2016 with 4,630 users for daytime, residential, promotion of personal autonomy, telecare and home help care," said the minister, who also referred to the "strong impetus to the benefits linked to the service in order to favor user choice, maintaining their environment and personalized attention. "

Thomas Violante said regulatory projects that his department is working to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities "in collaboration with the Cermi, municipal social services and other ministries".

Among them, he cited the future Law of Guarantees and Rights of persons with disabilities in the region, "it will be the first to be drawn up criteria readable to meet the commitment to provide universal access to all people with disabilities access to resources, "he said.

"It is also working on policy development services Promotion of Autonomy to expand the current offer day care centers and residences to other resources that respond to the needs of psychosocial support, functional rating, cognitive stimulation and rotary accommodation that you are meant to promote independent living for people with disabilities, "he said.
