Work begins on the Via Verde del Barrio Peral (29/06/2010)

This week we have started works to convert the old route of the railway as it passes through the Barrio de Peral in a Cycling Master Greenway.

With a budget of 1.5 million euros, is one of the star project considered by the Plan II E of Cartagena, with the Archaeological Park of the windlass, and their duration is about eight months.

Operators Eals the contractor has already proceeded to fence most of the former course of about two kilometers long, continuing almost simultaneously with cleaning brush and weeds and earth moving shovels and excavators.

One of the main virtues of this project is to eliminate the current physical barrier that separates the neighborhoods of Pearl with The Four Barriers and Santos.

This will fill the trenches and embankments of the old track until he was at the height of the streets.

This will employ between 40,000 and 50,000 cubic meters of earth.

This task will take about two months, almost all summer.

Later, proceed to the construction of sidewalks, provision of lighting and paving of the walking and bike path.

Remember that the Greenway is one of the old claims of the residents of the neighborhoods involved, which led to the steps it has been carrying out the Municipal ADIF reaching agreement land swap.

The resulting ride will depart at the same level of the Rotunda of the barrier and with a gentle slope down to go down neighborhood near the Mall Mandarache, eliminating the physical barrier of separation between the three neighborhoods and allowing a total pedestrian permeability between both kinds hitherto not possible by the old railway line trench.
