The City Council asks for military installations to guarantee the quarantine of immigrants (27/07/2020)

| The mayor has made municipal facilities available to the Autonomous Community, although she has clarified that they are an eventual solution that does not respond to the magnitude of the problem | The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has requested this morning that military installations be enabled, such as the Infantry School, to welcome undocumented immigrants who have arrived on the shores of the Region and ensure that quarantine is carried out with full guarantees .The mayor made this request during the meeting she attended on Monday, July 27, accompanied by the deputy mayor, Noelia Arroyo, and the heads of Social Services and Sports Services, as well as the head of Infrastructure Heritage, summoned by the counselor of the Presidency, Javier Celdrán, to analyze the arrival of boats that has taken place during the weekend. The City Council has made a municipal pavilion available to the Ministry of Health to welcome immigrants who must quarantine, although the mayor has indicated that this is an eventual solution: “Our desire for collaboration is total and always has been.

That is why I am accompanied by those responsible for the departments of Infrastructure, Sports and Social Services, because we are willing to support everything that is necessary.

But the situation is very serious, especially taking into account the health crisis caused by the coronavirus, which is why I think it would be necessary for military installations to be enabled as it is expected that boats will continue to arrive and more space must be offered, "said Castejón.The mayor has emphasized the lack of information that the City Council has suffered from the Government delegation.

“In other similar situations, with Bernabé first and Conesa later as government delegates, we act in coordination, which is how it should be done.

From the City Council we are very clear, and I especially, that this problem is above political or personal confrontations.

We must act together to provide solutions ”, he indicated. For his part, the Councilor for the Presidency, Javier Celdrán, has expressed his gratitude to the Cartagena City Council for its offer to provide municipal facilities: "The mayor has been available from the first moment."The counselor has also stated that “coordination between the three administrations is necessary.

The City Council offers the sports center and other services, from CARM we will carry out care and social policy and we will ask the Government delegation to take custody of these people while they are quarantined.

"Celdrán has expressed his discomfort at the lack of information from the government delegation: "For this reason we have called this meeting to clarify aspects such as care for immigrants.""I trust that we will be able to return to the path of understanding between administrations," said the counselor and added: "I am sure that the mayor and representatives of the regional government are on that line.

Now we hope that the rest are with the same intention.
