More than a hundred volunteers are in charge of the operation of the Social Emergency Operation (21/04/2020)

| Thanks to their altruistic work and this week alone, some 1,450 people have food and medicine | During this quarantine there are many people from Cartagena who cannot stay at home.

Restrooms, supermarket workers, transporters, farmers or police go out to work every morning so that others can be healthy and safe at home. From the beginning of this health crisis, the priorities of society changed and, as it could not be otherwise, those of the Cartagena City Council changed, which from that moment on, turned all their efforts to alleviate the needs that multiplied among many families of the municipality. To do this, it launched the social emergency operation, which guarantees the supply of food and medicine among the most vulnerable in this situation.

The impeccable operation of this device would be impossible without the dozens of people who work altruistically every day so that more than 1,450 people can eat each week. From the Equality and Education officials who are in charge of taking daily calls to the Single Social Telephone (968021123), to the Sports, Youth, custodians or Infrastructure staff who download the pallets and who, along with the volunteers of the Food Bank, prepare food batches for each family, and ending with volunteers from the Local Police, Civil Protection, the Navy and the Third Party of Levante who are in charge of home delivery.

All of them from the hand of the Social Services team. The volunteers from the Civil Protection and the Food Bank have joined this week those of the Red Cross and Caritas who collaborate in the preparation of food and distribute it.Mayor Ana Belén Castejón has valued the selfless work of all these people, stating that “I have no words to thank the immense work that all the people who make up the operation are doing.

Starting with the volunteers and the military and not forgetting all the municipal workers who are leaving their skin and who are demonstrating that there are many ways to cope with this situation but that the best of them is helping others.

" Some of the City Council workers have had to abandon the device to return to the tasks of their respective councils, but the emergency operation will continue to work at the same performance while the confinement lasts.
