UPCT National Prize for the urban regeneration of the historic complex of Cartagena (05/12/2019)

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) received last night in the Albert Serratosa City and Territory award for the reconversion of the historical heritage in university equipment in the urban regeneration project of the Cartagena historical complex developed between 1999 and 2005.

The jury considers that the distinguished performance is “a historical rehabilitation for a very interesting use for the city: the university”.

He also highlighted "its impeccable urban integration of the preexisting urban fabric".

He also highlighted "the enhancement of his contribution as a rehabilitation of the city center and its execution under criteria of strict sustainability."

The prize "City and Territory" is awarded by the College of Civil Engineers, Canals and Ports and the Caminos Foundation.

It recognizes the administrations, companies and professionals that, with their decisions, investments and interventions that have managed to carry out actions around the restoration and rehabilitation of the heritage of public works.

The prize was collected by the president of the Social Council, Eugenio Galdn and the UPCT manager, Isidro Ibarra, at an event held in Madrid.

Galdn has shown appreciation on behalf of the UPCT.

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena rehabilitated the old Marine Hospital, the Barracks of Antigones and the Marine Instruction Center, and converted military buildings of great heritage value in disuse and in the process of deterioration in modern university facilities, which today are the headquarters of its Muralla del Mar and CIM campuses.

He also restored part of the La Milagrosa building, where the Rectorate is located.
