The Department of Social Services, through the Unit of Older Persons and Persons with Disabilities, together with the club of elders of Virgen de la Caridad, carries out the solidarity and intergenerational activity: “Las Abuelas Castañerasâ€.
Throughout the month of November, the grandmothers of the club of elders, dressed in their traditional costume of castanets, have toured residences, day centers and schools, where they have distributed chestnuts and sweets and have sung songs, where children as adults , have lived this beautiful tradition.
The tireless castanets have visited the Los Dolores and El Algar Day Centers, the sheltered housing of the Marraja Foundation, the Orpea and Amma residences and the Asdrubal and Stella Maris Colleges.
With this activity, the Department of Social Services, aims to recover popular traditions, teach in a didactic way the old trades and bring activities to those people who because of their physical and psychic situation can not go to them.
