MC promotes the declaration of the Casa del Niño as a Property of Cultural Interest (26/11/2019)

The Historical Heritage Service of the Autonomous Community has informed MC Cartagena of the resolution of the General Directorate of Cultural Property by which the procedure of declaration of Cultural Interest Assets, with category of monument, to the Casa del Niño begins.

An initiative of MC Cartagena, approved during the Plenary Session of December 30, 2016, prompted the City Council to request the CARM to proceed with the opening of the administrative file for the declaration of the architectural complex called 'Casa del Niño' as a Property of Cultural Interest (BIC), in accordance with the provisions of Law 16/1985, of June 25, on Spanish Historical Heritage.

MC demanded the declaration as BIC of the Casa del Niño, which only has a degree of protection 2, because the set of buildings of the Casa del Niño contains all the elements of historical and artistic interest required to obtain its BIC declaration ".

The deputy spokesman of the municipal group MC Cartagena, Jesús Giménez, said that "three years after the initiative of MC, the Autonomous Community has initiated the procedure to declare BIC the House of the Child. At that time, MC arranged the environment and the Regional government has cast several works without control, some started without a license. "

"Good news that is late and that it will be of no use if the Ministry of Culture continues to work as badly as in the Arroyo stage, to which López Miras ceased before the evidence that its owners were too far from the reality of the heritage of Cartagena ", he explained, adding that" examples of this spoiled spoil of heritage are found in other modernist BICs, such as Villa Calamari or Uncle Lobo's House, which disappear before the PP's inaction. "

Casa Maestre, Casa Zapata and Graduate Schools

In the line of concern and protection of our heritage, Giménez has advanced that the Cartagena formation will once again request the municipal plenary to urge the Autonomous Community to initiate the declaration procedure as BIC for the Master's House and the Zapata House.

The mayor said that "in addition to claiming regional investment to recover the Casa del Niño, we will resume the request that the houses Maestre and Zapata be declared BIC, an issue in which we know that the Beltrí Commission works, also concerned about its degradation".

Finally, the deputy spokesman of MC has advanced that "in 2020 we will require that the municipal budgets include the recovery of the Graduate Schools building, a BIC of singular importance, and a testimony of the advances in education in the principles of Cartagena of the twentieth century, which clashes with the lack of attention of those of 'La Trinca' towards the heritage and culture of Cartagena, which now cover with a large poster that has been purchased to sell the 'World Heritage' without investing, that is, 'water for all' of this legislature. "

It should be remembered that MC included an amendment to the 2018 budgets for the adaptation of the Graduate Schools building in order to turn it into a musealized space for the history of teaching and writing in Cartagena.

The amendment was approved, although with the proverbial disrespect to its Castejón commitments, it was not subsequently executed.
