More than a year ago, on October 31, 2018, the contract for the supply of an access control system to the center of Cartagena, known as 'pilonas', was signed.
This began to comply with the amendment of MC to the 2018 budget that included the claims of the stores of the center.
The objective of the action, valued at 100,000 euros, was to improve accessibility measures to the Historic District, since with the placement of planters, fences tied with ribbons and even vehicles of the Local Police, basic services are making it difficult to access this area .
A year later, these access control systems are still not operational, although local press was informed this morning of the imminent start of work for the installation of the devices that activate the three existing mobile bollards in Sagasta, Santa Florentina and Plaza Castellini
"With the usual delay to which they have accustomed us it seems that, finally, twelve months later, they will comply with the execution of this contract, product of an amendment of MC. It is an initiative that we promote for the benefit of sustainability and mobility in addition to an improvement in the quality of life in the urban center, "Isabel García has begun arguing.
The action, which included the installation of three retractable bollards with vehicle recognition systems affects the need to optimize environmental conditions.
"We congratulate ourselves on a measure that, if finally finalized, will also lead to the disappearance of the unsightly planters that, in Castellini Square, have made this route almost completely out of sight, with the consequent damage to the stores installed there. , also becoming a loading and unloading area for trucks at any time, even at night. Then, Isabel García, aware that the materialization of this action could be further extended, has advised the local government a temporary measure.
"If the planters move to the entrance of the Castellini Square, at the junction with the Calle Real, the problem of the street would be temporarily solved."
