The children of Cartagena take to the streets to claim their rights in their day (20/11/2019)

International Children's Day, celebrated annually on November 20, is a day dedicated to the children of the world.

The objective of this day is to draw attention to the situation of the most disadvantaged children, to raise awareness of children's rights and to make people aware of the importance of working day by day for their well-being and development.

The UN General Assembly recommended in 1954 a day to promote fraternity among children, promoting their well-being through social and cultural activities.

Following the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, the United Nations has celebrated this day since the year 59.

Cartagena has joined this Wednesday, November 20, the International Children's Day with the reading of the manifesto in the Steps of the City Hall, by three representatives of the Municipal Council of Children and Adolescents, and the march 'Walk for your rights' for the Streets of the port city.

The students of numerous educational centers of Cartagena have been received in the Town Hall Square by the Autopía collective.

Dancers, mosquitoes, clowns and a presenter with a very diverse costume have put the touch of humor and musical on this day.

The reading of the manifesto in the Steps of the City Hall, by María del Pilar, Paula and Tariq, representatives of the Municipal Council for Children and Adolescents, has been assisted by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García and the councilors of the municipal corporation, Gonzalo Abad, María del Pilar García and Jesús Giménez.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, said that "it does not matter whether they are blond or dark, their physical condition or their place of origin because the important thing is that all children are equal and that is why we must always protect them."

Under the motto 'For me and for all my colleagues', the three representatives of the Municipal Council of Children and Adolescents have made the reading of the manifesto claiming for their rights, such as “equality, identity, love, education, protection, quality of life , freedom of expression, integration, care and non-exploitation and assistance â€:

Equality: Respect for children regardless of religion, skin color, physical condition or place of birth.

Identity: Having a name and surname to be identified and to be able to relate to other people.

Love: Having a family that takes care of you, that loves you, that protects you and that feeds you.

Education: Have access to go to school, know how to write and read, have class every day and school supplies necessary to maintain good communication.

Protection: Rest at home safely, have fun in a healthy and happy environment and play in a safe place.

Quality of life: Access to healthcare regardless of economic conditioning and place of origin.

Freedom of expression: Say what I think, feel, think and express what I want, having respect and understanding towards other people.

Integration: Meeting with other children and participation in sports or leisure activities regardless of gender, nationality, physical condition or any health issue.

Care and non-exploitation: Protection against cruelty, abandonment and exploitation.

Help: Be educated in peace.

After reading the manifesto, the smallest of the municipality, accompanied by teachers and the Autopía animation group, have made the 'Walk for your rights' march through the streets of the city.

They have traveled the main street, passing through Puertas de Murcia, Carmen, the Alameda de San Antón and the Estadio Cartagonova, until they reach Vallejo Alberola Park, where the participants have had breakfast and danced in a great dance with children's animations.

The events will continue in the afternoon at 4:30 p.m. with the discovery of the badge in the Plaza of the City Council of Cartagena as a Child Friendly City by the minor members of the Municipal Council for Children and Adolescents.

It will be the latter who close the events of the day with the celebration of a Plenary at 5 pm, in the City Hall.
