The City Council joins the manifesto for sustainability (19/11/2019)

The Cartagena City Council has joined the manifesto for sustainability, together with COEC, the Chamber of Commerce, ANSE, the UPCT, the Hospitality Santa Teresa, La Huertecica, APICES, the Federation of Carthaginians and Romans, the Association of Young Entrepreneurs, Hostecar, ONCE, Housewives, Caritas or Cartagena for Charity, promoted by Hidrogea, within the H2030 project.

The presentation of the H2030 project and its subsequent signature, which took place on the morning of November 19, in the Isaac Peral Room of the Naval Museum, has been assisted by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, the second deputy mayor, Manuel Padín and the councilor in the area of Infrastructure, Services and Coast, María Casajús, together with the manager of Hidrogea in Cartagena, Andrés Martínez.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, said that "Cartagena is committed to the objectives of the 2030 agenda of the UN, therefore, from the City Council we are aware that the future is about environmental, economic and social sustainability."

In addition, he explained that "we must be able to transform our society, our customs and our way of relating to our environment to be more respectful of the Environment, guaranteeing the prosperity of our planet and of those who live in it."

The H2030 project is new at the national level, whose main objective is to contribute to the development and momentum of Cartagena in the coming years in terms of sustainability.

The manager of Hidrogea, Andrés Martínez, explained that this initiative revolves around four main pillars such as “transparency and participation, accessibility, innovation and the Environmentâ€.

Transparency and participation: Knowing what citizens need and that they know the complexity that is missing from opening the tap and leaving water safely.

Hidrogea will soon sign an agreement with the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena and Comarca to meet their needs.

Accessibility: Water supply is a fundamental right that is why Hidrogea and the City Council of Cartagena work together so that water reaches any place in the municipality through funds and social tariffs or interest-free debt deferral.

In addition, the company works with ONCE and other entities so that they can carry out their procedures without any problem.

Innovation: The development of talent and momentum of young people, for example, through the chair of Hidrogea-UPCT.

In addition, the parent company of Hidrogea, Suez, has chosen Cartagena as a reference center with the start-up of a technological research, development and innovation center for the environmental sector for urban water management.

Environment: The care of the environment and the protection of natural resources are two important axes through the reduction of CO2 or through projects such as the one carried out with ANSE for the care of waterfowl in Cabezo Beaza.

Castejón has pointed out that the H2030 project is “a unique opportunity to transform our relations with the planet, creating employment and companies linked to the Environmentâ€.

In addition to highlighting the active role of companies in sustainability, the mayor of Cartagena has stressed that accessibility and social cohesion in the municipality is promoted, improving it through projects such as “the protection of aquatic species in the Cabezo Beaza, the creation of ecological gardens, the collaboration with the Department of Youth in the installation of shade in educational centers or the reduction of the use of plastic â€.

With the signing of this manifesto, they commit to work together to promote responsible change that allows the development of Cartagena in equality, accessibility and sustainability, to make it a benchmark in innovation and respect for the Environment.
