More than 50 students and professors of the Institute of Mediterranean Secondary Education and San Isidoro, Los Dolores, in addition to members of the Procabo environmental group, this Saturday clean plastics and marine litter in the South Mar Menor: Playa Honda, Playa Paraíso and Mar of Cristal.

A group of students samples the microscopics. UPCT researcher Javier Bayo will coordinate the collection.

All the identification of microplastics collected will be carried out in the UPCT laboratories.

Last Saturday they did the cleaning of marine litter in Calblanque.

This initiative is part of the first edition of the project 'Citizen Science for Primary and Secondary Education Centers: Marine Garbage in the Murcian Coast', developed by the Scientific Culture Unit (UCC + i) of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and through the which will raise awareness among young people about the problem of marine litter.

The Citizen Science project proposes different objectives, such as: raising awareness among young generations about the problem of marine litter, the impact of our habits and the need to seek constructive solutions using Circular Economy, giving visibility to the research activity, favor the participation of students outside the scientific community in the collection of useful data, identify the categories of marine litter in several protected areas of the Region or locate accumulation areas (hot spots).

This program has the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology - Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
