Nuno Júdice and Jorge Riechmann voices protagonists of the poetic festival Deslinde (06/11/2019)

The Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena presented this morning the poetic festival Deslinde that will feature among its leading voices with those of the poets Nuno Júdice and Jorge Riechmann.

An edition, the fourth, where Carmen Conde will be featured with the presentation of the first edition of her Civil War poems and the little-known reading of her poems from the Mar Menor.

Four years ago this new cultural project for Cartagena began in the form of a poetic festival with the aim of consolidating and joining the calendar of the obligatory appointments of culture in the municipality, and did so around the prestigious Antonio Oliver Belmás International Poetry Prize , which this year reaches its thirty-third edition, at the hands of the Popular University of Cartagena.

In honor of the poet who gives name to this award, the title of one of his short poems, Deslinde, was chosen.

The fourth edition has reached the germinal purpose, and Deslinde has become the poetic festival of Cartagena and the Region.

Fourth edition that coincides with the fortieth anniversary of the inauguration of his chair at the Spanish Language Academy of the first woman who accessed this institution, Carmen Conde from Cartagena, so closely linked to Antonio Oliver.

This fact initiated the change of an unacceptable reality for women writers and students of the language.

In the words of Carmen Conde, it was thus put an end to such an unfair as ancient literary discrimination.

This festival is going to remind Carmen Conde but above all it is the testimony of how much progress has been made along that path in which she was a pioneer.

Carmen Conde will be present in two acts full of symbolism.

The first is the presentation of the first edition of his poems of the Civil War, which ended eighty years ago, a time of intense pain after which "Carmen said," what was called peace, but we all know that it was not peace but lie. "

The second is the reading of his little-known poems from the Mar Menor, written sixty years ago, in the summer of 1959 in Lo Pagán, and which now take on the special meaning of singing for the lost.

Twenty poems that will be read by twenty voices of women in the Fishermen's Association of Saint Lucia as a way of closing the festival.

But the festival offers much more.

True to its commitment to open up to international creation, the festival will feature as a guest one of the most important Portuguese poets alive, Nuno Júdice, which has among others the Reina Sofía Award for Ibero-American Poetry.

In the program are also names of other admired poets such as the poet and essayist Jorge Riechmann, the poet and fadist Verónica Aranda, or the poet, writer and editor Miguel Ángel Arcas.

In addition, the festival will present the latest books of two prominent poets born in the region such as Alberto Chessa and José Daniel Espejo.

As an expression of the deep bond that has always linked to poetry and music, poetic-musical acts will be attended, from the concert of the singer-songwriter and poet Luis Pastor, to the jazzy touches that will accompany the recital of the transgressive poets of the Beat Generation .

You can also hear fados between verses, events that are done in collaboration with the Cartagena Jazz Festival which is also held these days in Cartagena.

The diversity of proposals will also allow the 2019 DESLINDE program to include a tribute to that form of improvised popular poetry that is the Cartagena crowd.

Also noteworthy is the presentation of a new Cartagena-based publisher "The Aesthetics of Failure" by Vicente Velasco, which has become an agitator of the local cultural scene from its bookstore The Magic Mountain

This DISCLOSURE also includes the presentation of plaquettes and poetic magazines, a poetic duel, a tribute in educational centers to Jaime Gil de Biedma on the ninety anniversary of his birth, an attentive care because poetry also reaches the neighborhoods (in this case, Santa Lucía) or to return to the activity "Poets to jail" that is done with inmates of the Campos del Río Penitentiary Center, with the writer and poet Diego Sánchez Aguilar and with the collaboration of the Solidarios para el Desarrollo association.
