Obituary: In memory of Dr. Bartolomé García Pérez (05/11/2019)

General Secretary MC Cartagena |

On November 1 we received the fatal news of the death of Dr. D. Bartolomé García.

From now on and for the friendship and affection I professed, I will refer to him as Bartolo.

He left us after a hard illness that he carried with discretion and strength, just as he led his life.

Bartolo was a self-made man, because by the vicissitudes of life he had to mature earlier than normal, but since he was an exceptional human being, he did not count in his curriculum the vicissitudes he went through until he became the Doctor García, nor those who after his graduation succeeded him.

He helped own and strangers, sick people of all social classes, treating everyone with the same affection with which we remind him today that we received his care.

He left friends in abundance and if the thanks could be set in crowns of flowers, thousands would cover his tombstone.

Bartolo was a man of strong principles, which led him to fulfill his hippocratic oath as a doctor and his oath as a Social Security official, always seeking excellence in his medical activity.

The son, brother, husband and father was cum laude.

And after detecting how the Digestive System Service that he directed was perverted, and with which he had achieved successes such as the suppression of waiting lists in it since 2003, he decided to speak with the Managing Director of Rosell, D. Cástor P. Notary, raising complaints and solutions that will help reduce waiting lists and, above all, have to divert patients from these lists to private hospitals to perform the diagnostic tests that were done within a few months in the hospital itself, without To be forced to pay an extension of the working day or overtime.

Following the ladder and after being ignored by Mr. Cástor and his Medical Director, Mr. Juan José Pedreño, the matter, which called to heaven or the Ministry, came as an excuse of poor payer to different social sectors, preferring D. Castor defending himself with a bad attack than surrendering to Bartolo's evidence, spreading lies and falsehoods against an irreproachable professional, who led Bartolo to publish from his pocket an open letter to D. Castor, where politely and in safeguard of the good name of the service and of the health of his patients he told all the truths of the boatman.

From the Kafka process that Bartolo and his people had to suffer, I will reserve the details because, although its consequences are terrible, he always kept them in his inner circle.

But, after removing him from the Department of the Digestive System Service, transferring him to Arrixaca, prohibiting him from carrying out interventions and setting up a smear campaign with a thrombus of lies and falsehoods, a trial was reached where he was clarified and sentenced that Bartolo, the Doctor D. Bartolomé García, was right in everything he raised, both in substance and in forms, that he was free to publicly miss the "unusual interest" of Escribano and Pedreño in diverting patients to private health, paying up to four times the cost of the tests to be carried out in the Rosell, and that its action was aimed at "informing and training public opinion on a public service and defending patients the right to treat in dignified conditions".

The example given by this man is of such depth, of such magnitude, that he should have his name written with gold letters and capitals in our history, but as the mediation, stupidity and intellectual indigence of the common is so remarkable, even after his funeral I had to listen to someone who after praising Bartolo ended with a "if it wasn't because he was wrong" ... Well, no friend, he was not wrong, he was wrong and many others with his diagnosis, with his 'pancism' , with his short sights, with his fear, with his interests and even with his envies.

Bartolo was right, fulfilled his oaths, with his patients, with his family and even with the life that already sprouts in his particular family tree.

And, therefore, many of us water and water that tree with our tears.

For that and because we have been orphaned as a friend.
