The manifesto against poverty and social exclusion brings together institutions and citizens at the gates of the Regional Assembly (17/10/2019)

The reading of the manifesto against poverty and social exclusion has gathered representatives of institutions and citizens this morning at the gates of the Regional Assembly in Cartagena.

Among the attendees was the vice mayor and councilor of the Social Welfare area, Noelia Arroyo, along with the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, and the councilors, Isabel García and Leli García.

Noelia Arroyo, on behalf of the municipal government, has indicated her commitment to the manifesto, as all the political parties did before the electoral process, and has recognized inequality and its involvement in the struggle to reverse that situation by working from hope and unity of All parties and institutions, not from resignation.

The reading of the manifesto by the president of the Economic and Social Council of the Region of Murcia (CES), José Antonio Cobacho, has been celebrated within the framework of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and Social Exclusion.

The reading has drawn attention to the situation that affects Spain and the Region of Murcia in particular.

In the manifesto, the Spanish Network against Poverty and Social Exclusion (EAPN) has demanded from the new European Parliament the implementation of measures and a strategy that does not forget the 130 million people who are at risk of poverty in the European Union.

It has also claimed the responsibility of the Spanish public authorities to promote progressive economic and social policies, human development and citizen participation.

According to the manifesto, in the Region of Murcia, these policies acquire a structural character that requires a committed political action, since one in three people are at risk of poverty.

From EAPN Region of Murcia, the II Pact to Fight against Poverty and Social Exclusion in the Region of Murcia has been urged to reduce the Arope rate by eight points, by five points the percentage of people living in situations of severe inequality and in 15 points the risk rate of child poverty.

To this end, the measures that must be urgently addressed, according to the manifesto, are the creation of a permanent commission on poverty and social exclusion, specific measures in the application of the basic income law, an increase in the budget for this benefit. and its approval as a matter of urgency.
