Political scientist Manuel Villoria fights corruption in Cartagena Piensa (14/10/2019)

The political scientist Manuel Villoria presents this Tuesday, October 15, at 8:00 p.m., in the Josefina Soria del Luzzy Library, the book 'Combat corruption' (Gedisa, 2019).

The presentation, framed within the programming of Cartagena Piensa, will be directed by Fernando Jiménez, Professor of Political Science and Administration of the University of Murcia.

Corruption has become one of the most important problems on the entire planet.

It affects economic growth, generates inequality, delegitima public institutions.

But even so, it is a phenomenon poorly known to citizens, confused with other criminal phenomena and used politically with excessive joy.

This text aims to provide the basic knowledge about this social scourge in order to favor the effective civic mobilization against it and the rigorous taking of responsibilities by the public powers to face the problem.

ABOUT MANUEL VILLORIA

Manuel Villoria is Professor of Political Science at the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid (URJC), where he directs the Observatory in Good Governance.

Co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of Transparency International, Spanish chapter.

Guest professor at various Spanish and foreign universities, consultant for the OECD, the IDB, the European Union.

President of the Ethics Committee of the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

He is also secretary of the Ethics Commission of the UGT.
