14 educational centers once again count on defibrillators (07/10/2019)

With the beginning of the school year, the Cartagena City Council through the Cartagena City Cardio-Protected Municipal Project along with Civil Protection continues with the program to optimize the municipal DEA (automated defibrillators).

In total, 14 schools in the municipality (12 CEIP and two IES) have another year during the school period with the DEA that during the summer period have been serving on our beaches, reaching more than 4,000 schoolchildren.

These defibrillators have been reviewed and tuned for this purpose.

In addition, as pointed out by the councilor responsible for the project, Esperanza Nieto, this year, as a novelty in these centers, the Didactic Unit of First Aid and CPR will be developed, taught by teachers of the schools, which previously authorized by the City Council and the Community for the use of DEA, have received a training course for trainers.

Cartagena City Council has acquired first aid and CPR teaching material that will be available exclusively to schools.

This pilot program jointly developed by the City Council of Cartagena together with the Ministry of Education and Health and the School of Health portal aims to be the beginning of a global project for all schools in the Region.

According to Nieto, "our goal is to continue advancing in this area with an increase in the number of defibrillators both fixed available to the citizen 24 hours a day and mobile placed in cars of the local police, increasing the number of officials and citizens trained in High quality CPR and making it possible for all defibrillators (public or private) in the municipality to be visible and at the service of the citizen.
