1,800 runners fill the 10K Port of Cartagena of solidarity (06/10/2019)

The test 10k Port of Cartagena, which has passed for the first time by the Pier of San Pedro.

The funds raised will be donated to the Pablo Ugarte Association for the fight against childhood cancer.

This fourth edition has had the presence of Juan Ignacio Ferrández, official chronicler of Cartagena, who explained the history of the city during the day of hiking.

Juan Ramón García Gen and Paloma Sánchez Sala were the winners in the male and female categories, respectively.

1,800 solidarity athletes have now been part of the fourth edition of the 10K Solidarity Race of the Port of Cartagena, exceeding all expected expectations of assistance by the organization.

This year the race has brought new features in its circuit, incorporating for the first time the pier of San Pedro, with a route between the containers and the cantile of the pier, below the cranes.

The 10K Port of Cartagena has consisted of several tests: 10K Test (participants over 18 years of age), 4.5K Test (participants from 13 to 17 years, and functional diversity participants), and Child Test (from 0 to 12 years old and distances between 250 and 1,100).

There was also a walk for hikers through the Bay of Cartagena during the morning, not included in the competition, during which the official chronicler of Cartagena, Juan Ignacio Ferrández, explained the history of the city in three stops of the morning hiking day .

The absolute winner of the men's category event was Juan Ramón García Gen (CA Mandarache Cartagena), completing the race in 33:02 minutes.

In the women's category, the winner was Paloma Sánchez Sala (Juventud Atlético Elche) with a time of 38:16 minutes.

In teams, the winning club was CD Runtritón, from Cartagena

In addition, attendees were able to enjoy the children's area 'Fun Zone' throughout the day, with inflatables and entertainment.

An area for solidarity purchase of t-shirts, wristbands and other items was arranged, and the culmination was two large solidarity paellas.

The music was also present, with the performances by "Cinnamon in Rama", at noon, and "All Secrets", at night.

The general director of the Port Authority of Cartagena, Fermín Rol, has highlighted his "deep satisfaction for achieving such a high participation in this fourth edition of the Solidarity race, with more than 1,800 participants, that in addition to contributing his grain of sand to the foundation Pablo Ugarte, has also tried to give prominence to the city, including for the first time a route that passes through the pier of San Pedro ".

In the same way, Rol has stressed that "more than 25 sponsoring and collaborating companies have turned to support this sporting and solidarity activity, to which they especially appreciate their collaboration."

In the delivery of trophies of the race were present, among others, the Vice Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, the general director of the Port Authority, Fermín Rol, the general director of sports of the Region of Murcia, Francisco Sánchez, military authorities, as well as the sponsoring companies, representatives of the Runtritón Club, of the Pablo Ugarte Association and more than a hundred volunteers of the Runtritón Club and of the Port Authority of Cartagena who have collaborated along the course of the race.

The funds obtained will go to APU (Pablo Ugarte Association), a platform that fights against childhood cancer that was born in memory of little Pablo Ugarte, who died after suffering bone cancer.

The association, founded by its parents and friends, has the motto 'Leave oncologists unemployed'.

APU helps childhood cancer research teams, as well as children and their families.

At the moment, it has more than 2,000 associates and has a presence in all the Autonomous Communities of the country.
