Social Services announces the programming of seniors of the last quarter with an easy-to-read format (20/09/2019)

The Department of Social Services has presented on the morning of September 20 the program of activities that will be carried out by the elderly throughout the autumn, from October to December.

The presentation was attended by the Vice Mayor of Cartagena and Councilor for Social Welfare, Noelia Arroyo, the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, and the Vice President of the Federation of Associations of Older Persons, Fermina Lorente.

The vice mayor of Cartagena and Councilor for Social Welfare, Noelia Arroyo, said that "the Department of Social Services has scheduled for autumn more than 150 activities that seek to keep our greatest assets and integrated, offer healthy practices and provide quality leisure" .

A wide range of workshops, courses, outdoor activities, walks and hiking, celebrations, musical performances, talks to movies.

In addition, the deputy mayor has explained that projects have been developed that aims to “foster contact between generationsâ€, that is, to put old and young people in contact so that “the former know the world better today and for the latter to take advantage of the huge capital that represents the experience of our elders. â€

This year, for the first time, the Department of Social Services will offer programming in two formats.

The first, the traditional triptych, which includes an explanatory guide.

The second is the easy-to-read, multi-page format, which Arroyo says "is very easy to read and understand and is intended for people with reading difficulties."

Both formats can be found on the City Council website and in the Information Office for the Elderly.

The programming of activities starts with the celebration of the International Day of the Elderly on October 1.

The activities will begin in the morning with an Intergenerational and Solidarity March of the walkers of the SendaSenior Sociocultural Association and the students of the ISEN University Center.

In addition, there will be a visit to the homes of the largest centenarians of the municipality that is disabled and in the afternoon, the manifesto will be read in the Town Hall Square, before the Tribute to the Centennial People is held at the CAM.

Between October 25 and 27, FEMADIS 19 is celebrated, the great Fair of Resources and Services for the Elderly and People with Disabilities.

November 20 is the International Day of the Rights of the Child, where numerous activities will be carried out to learn about the customs of Cartagena through the elderly and on December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities will be celebrated.

ACTIVITIES IN ELDERLY CLUBS

Cartagena has 43 senior clubs and for this, numerous activities of various kinds have been prepared.

Noelia Arroyo has highlighted the Course of Initiation to Electronic Administration, which is designed to "help club managers to carry out administrative procedures electronically as requests for grants or justifications."

The Theater Workshops will continue and as a novelty, this quarter will be held in the clubs of the neighborhoods and councils, the Free Time Workshops.

There will also be workshops on Environment, health, crafts, workshops aimed at improving oral expression or the development of creativity.

The mayor of Social Welfare has affirmed that "the two most demanded programs directly related to health will be maintained in autumn".

We talked about the Memory Stimulation and Exercise Program, followed by more than 800 people in 40 clubs, and the Geronto Gymnastics Program, with physical activity specifically designed for our elders, which is followed by more than 1000 seniors in 41 clubs.

In addition, the elderly can enjoy the Cultural Weeks, which include cultural visits, talks, championships, representations or performances of rondallas in the Club de Alumbres, the Polygon of Santa Ana, Virgen de la Caridad, Los Belones, Los Barreros, Barriada de la Concepción and Santa Ana.

COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

Within this section of the program, the Department of Social Services will organize 19 courses and workshops throughout the fall.

The most demanded workshops are that of New Technologies, that of exercising the mind, of dancing, of popular traditions or of language courses.

The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, has highlighted as novelties “the grandparents and grandmothers school workshop, the talk-workshop 'Ponte en Valor', the one to create your own accessories, the Christmas one, the one 'Take care of your body 'or talks about the use and abuse of medicines or how to act in case of being a victim of a crime.'

All workshops are going to take place in the Milagrosa Building.

TREKKING

The SendaSenior Sociocultural Association and the Elderly Unit of the Department of Social Services have organized 23 routes divided into healthy walks through the city and 'The Wednesday of March'.

Mercedes García has pointed out that within "March Wednesdays" "excursions to the Mar Menor, Sierra Minera, Perín, Tallante or around Cartagena" have been organized.

DAY CENTER ACTIVITIES

Within this section of the program, it is worth mentioning the visit of the rondalla, the choir rociero, the castañeras, crafts workshop 'Autumn is coming', art workshops, a conviviality and a Christmas-themed party.

These activities will take place at the Club de Mayores de Santa Ana, Alumbres, El Algar or Los Dolores.

Finally, Fermina Lorente, vice president of the Federation of Associations of Older Persons, has concluded by saying that "these are many duties that the Department has given us that we are going to carry out."
