The City Council will allocate the Emergency Fund to the towns of the Mar Menor (16/09/2019)

The City Council of Cartagena has decided to approve this week to allocate the Emergency Fund to the towns of the Mar Menor.

As explained on Monday by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, the Contract Law allows, in cases of catastrophe such as happened last week, to activate a procedure to solve in an agile way the needs that have to be addressed as consequence of this situation.

In these cases it is allowed to award works and services without requiring a hiring file and without the need for credit.

Castejón has given the order to take advantage of this procedure this morning, given the seriousness of the situation experienced by the towns of the Mar Menor during the last four days and that need a quick response.

In addition, the mayor has announced that she will request that the declaration of catastrophic zone include, “not only the villages but also the Mar Menor itself, which was already in a delicate situation and with the recent torrential rains have not done more to aggravate it. "

The petition is based on the importance of a comprehensive solution for the salt lagoon.

The EMU will be deployed in Los Nietos

Also, Castejón has requested the presence of the Emergency Military Unit (EMU) in Los Nietos, Los Urrutias and the most damaged areas, which will be deployed in the next few days to help clean the homes of people who have seen affected, as confirmed this morning by the Minister of Transparency, Beatriz Ballesteros.

He has also reported that the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, will visit this Tuesday, September 17, the most affected towns in the Mar Menor, to assess damages and plan the most urgent actions after the passage of the DANA through the Cartagena coast.

The visit will begin at 10.30 am from the OMITA of Los Nietos.

In this regard, the mayor has indicated that the councilors of Decentralization and Social Services will be responsible for coordinating the actions to be carried out in the affected villages.

Finally, in the coming days there will be a meeting with the representatives of the primary sector to assess the damages suffered by the rains and offer them the help they require.
