Since the Cuban diva will perform for the first time at La Mar de Música de 1998, in the Cuba Special, there have been numerous presentations by the bride of feeling in the port city.

A commitment between Paco Martín, director of La Mar de Música and the Cartagena Jazz Festival until 2018, and the Queen of the Tropicana, in which the programmer promised to bring her with all her projects, has created a very special link between Cartagena and Omara .

The year in which the diva of the Buena Vista Social Club has announced that this may be its last major tour of the international stages, the city that has welcomed it so many times, needs to say goodbye to it.

Therefore, the Cuban diva will be responsible for inaugurating the 39th edition of the Cartagena Jazz Festival, a festival that also dedicates its poster poster, the work of illustrator Cristina Gil Abenza.

The tour that returns her to Cartagena has the title of 'Omara is Cuba-The Last Kiss', where she picks up the best of her musical work.

An unmissable occasion to see what will possibly be the last performance of the Cuban in Cartagena, November 1.

She will be accompanied on stage among others, by another acquaintance of the Cartagena festivals, the Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca.

Outside the stage Omara Portuondo is an old woman who moves with some difficulty, was born in 1930, but inside it, it is as if the gods gave her a new personality.

When I performed in Cartagena, he will finish turning 89 years old.

The Cuban visited the port city for the last time in 2016 with Diego El Cigala and two years earlier, in 2014, she received the La Mar de Musicas award for “her interpretative ability and her transmission of Cuban popular musicâ€.

But his performances in the port city have been many more;

here he has performed with Chucho Valdés, or accompanying his colleagues at the Buena Vista Social Club, the project that internationalized Cuban music, among others.

But the first time Omara was in Cartagena was a very special night, in which La Mar de Musicas celebrated a Cuba Special and the girlfriend of the feeling performed with Compay Segundo.

It was the year 1998.

The tireless singer has been in the entertainment world for almost seven decades and this does not diminish her ability to work.

On the contrary, it grows when the public is in front of it: "The love of the public that comes to my concerts is my energy to continue singing."

She has been known as the leading lady of Buena Vista Social Club, as the girlfriend of feeling, and as the star dancer of the Tropicana cabaret.

At almost 90 years old he still lives for and for the bolero, the danzón or the habanera.

At 17 he became one of the most important voices in his country in bands like Loquibambla Swing or Las d'Aida, a quartet with which he created a new style known as feeling, a fusion of jazz and bossa nova.

His voice is soft, slow paced and denotes a gift of people that age will not be able to stop.

He has stories, hundreds of memories in which he dives to portray his life.

For Portuondo the recording of the album 'Buena Vista Social Club' in 1996, produced by the American guitarist Ry Cooder, was a before and after.

She became the lady of the Cuban bolero and her voice began to be heard throughout the world.

Two years later, the filming of the homonymous documentary came under the direction of Wim Wenders, who recorded his performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.

That same year he went through La Mar de Música that celebrated a Cuba Special and where the great lady of the bolero acted alongside Compay Segundo, Eliades Ochoa, Juan Perro or Martirio among others.

The Cuba will be in charge of inaugurating a jazz festival that will announce the complete programming of its 39 edition in one week.

The festival is organized by the City Council of Cartagena.
