Agents will monitor the use of mobiles or distracting elements by drivers |
From Monday 16 to Sunday 22 September, the Local Police of Cartagena and the General Directorate of Traffic will conduct a special campaign to control the distractions that drivers may have during the traffic.
The controls will be carried out throughout the week in different areas of the municipality.
This Road Safety campaign aims to reduce traffic accidents due to distractions at the wheel.
The campaign is aimed mainly at drivers, but also at other groups, such as pedestrians, where, according to Cartagena Local Police, it is common to observe reckless behavior, especially in the urban environment.
In 2018, distraction appears as a concurrent factor in 32% of accidents with victims on interurban roads, whose cause was a distraction at the wheel, mainly due to the improper use of mobile phones, GPS navigators, or other devices.
For example, the use of the mobile phone multiplies by four the risk of accident equating it to doing so under the influence of alcohol.
During this campaign, Local Police agents will check that drivers drive without using the mobile phone, if they use headphones or use GPS among other behaviors that can distract while driving.
