The City Council of Cartagena advises to avoid travel during Thursday (11/09/2019)

The City Council of Cartagena has advised citizens to avoid displacement during the day of tomorrow, Thursday, in anticipation of heavy and persistent rains that could reach 70 liters per square meter in one hour and 200, in 12 hours.

If these displacements are unavoidable, it is recommended to do so with the utmost caution without ever crossing flooded areas or waterways, in the face of danger of being dragged.

The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, chaired this afternoon the emergency coordination commission of the different municipal services and concessionaires that have been activated on the occasion of the red warning for storms, rain and wind forecast in the municipality of Cartagena, by the State Agency of Meteorology (AEMET).

The concessionaires have been responsible for Lhicarsa, Hidrogea and Alsa.

In the meeting, in which the vice mayor and head of Social Welfare and Sports, Noelia Arroyo;

the second deputy mayor, Manuel Padín;

the Councilor for Public Safety, Juan Pedro Torralba, and the Councilors for Infrastructure and Education, María Casajús and Irene Ruiz, have reviewed the preventive measures taken, such as the suspension of parties and the closure of all educational centers and sports facilities , including points and centers for children;

and those who have joined the suspension of the markets of Los Dolores, Los Urrutias, La Azohía, La Aljorra and La Palma, as well as libraries and cultural centers.

It has also been established as a preventive measure at the time that precipitation begins and is determined by Local Police and Civil Guard, the closure to traffic of the conflict points, which usually flood or overflow as are the Way of the Siphon;

the road from La Aljorra to Sabic;

the Rambla del Beal;

Rambla de la Carrasquilla;

the road of El Albujón;

the Rambla de El Albujón as it passes through Pozo Estrecho and the mouth of this same ravine in the area of ​​Bahía Bella, where the measures to be adopted for an eventual evacuation have been evaluated.

Another of the conflicting points is located around the festero camp and the Cartagonova stadium, where the runoff has been diverted to the storm tank area and sandbags will be placed to prevent water from entering the basement of the stadium through the ramps

Finally, the problems that occur in the western part of the municipality have been addressed, so it has been agreed as a preventive measure to suspend line 25 of urban buses, and advise neighbors to stay in their homes while the rains last .

This measure, depending on the evolution of rainfall, could extend to others such as the Marfagones Quarry and Mill lines.

The City Council of Cartagena through its municipal website and social networks, in coordination with the rest of public administrations, will be giving timely information on the incidents that are recorded, mainly roads, alternative routes and advice to the population.

The municipal operation will be coordinated by the Fire Extinguishing, Rescue and Civil Protection Service, with its control room in the Security Park.
