The Popular University offers 1,430 places for its courses and talks scheduled for this course (06/09/2019)

The Popular University, belonging to the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena, has scheduled numerous courses and lectures of various kinds for its new school year, from textile or modeling workshops, English or German learning courses, photography and programs Image editing, Bazaar de las Letras or Cinema, creative singing and theater workshop, cultural routes, courses on emotional intelligence to activities on environmental protection.

In addition, the XXXIII edition of the Antonio Oliver Belmás Poetry Prize has been convened.

In total for the 2019/2020 course, the institution has offered 95 courses with a total of 1430 places.

Registration for courses and workshops will be made through the website of the Popular University (www.up.cartagena.es), where all the information about these activities is also available.

The registration period for courses and workshops lasting from October to May, will be open from September 16.

While for the modular courses that will be taught during the first quarter of the course, the registration period is open from this Wednesday, September 4.

The activities of this new course have been presented this Friday, September 6 and has been attended by the Councilor for Culture, Carlos Piñana and the director of the Popular University, José Macián.

The Councilor for Culture, Carlos Piñana, said that "the Popular University is an institution that not only instills an educational quality but also important values ​​for citizens."

In this new course, the Popular University intends to continue growing as an institution, with the commitment to maintain and expand its educational and cultural offer, asserting its recognition as Cultural Heritage of the City, ensuring the interests of Cartagena.

The director of this institution, José Macián, has detailed the programming of this course, under the slogan 'UP a space for all', which is structured in eight major thematic areas:

The Workshops Area that includes Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, Modeling and Sculpture, Handicrafts and Textile Making allow the learning of artistic techniques and procedures that develop creative potential.

The offer of this area is 18 workshops distributed between the Cultural Center and neighborhoods and councils.

With an offer of 270 seats.

The Language Area, which proposes learning English and German for those who want to start or improve their knowledge of these languages.

The offer is distributed in 9 groups.

With an offer of 145 seats.

As a novelty, the UP has been integrated into the Cambridge Language Assessment Preparatory Centers network to obtain the B1 Certificate.

The Training Area, whose priority purpose is to access university education and professional training, offers access to the University for those over 25 and 45 years of age, which enable them to enter all the pathways of university education.

Also for Access to the Higher or Middle Grade Training Modules.

The offer is 7 groups and 175 seats.

The New Technologies and Photography Area brings us closer to the exciting world of photography with courses of three levels of learning.

Eminently practical courses that will arouse student interest.

A Photoshop workshop is also offered: retouching and image editing.

It includes 10 courses and a total of 145 places.

The Humanities Area, brings us closer to an essential aspect of the human being, such as learning to see and recognize the values ​​and wisdom that are stored in literature, cinema, song and theater.

For this, there will be the Bazaar of Letters, with a long tradition in this institution, which is offered free of charge, the Cinema Bazaar or cinema club, the Singing workshop with three levels of learning, and the Creative Theater workshop.

The Humanities Area has a total of 19 courses and 355 places.

The Environment Area, which will create actions and actions related to sustainability, that promote the care and protection of the Environment.

In this way, it will contribute to overcoming the global ecological crisis.

The offer is 2 workshops and 40 places.

This is a recently created workshop that is being consolidated in the annual program, after several actions related to this theme.

The Learning Area outside the Classroom, brings us closer to the Cultural Routes through the city and the region.

For this, Urban, Environmental, Historical, Mining and Photographic Routes will be carried out.

All routes are made free of charge.

The offer is 7 routes and 200 seats.

Also, Cultural Trips are integrated into our cultural offer.

The Area of ​​Personal Development, through the School of Emotional Intelligence that the UP carries out in collaboration with the University of Murcia, offers training courses on Emotional Intelligence both for the Ampas that request it and for any citizen who is motivated to learn the emotion management and conflict resolution.

Several levels of learning are offered.

The offer is 100 places.

As a novelty for this new one will be offered a workshop of 'Introduction to the realization of short films' and another one of 'Cajón flamenco y batucada Brazilian'.

The Popular University 'In your Neighborhood', this project continues its journey through the neighborhoods and councils of the municipality offering free short-term workshops in applied arts, humanities, personal well-being, sustainable development or new technologies.

This programming takes place from January to May.

Also, 'A Summer of Cinema' will be offered again.

Last year, a total of 2529 people participated, distributed in 19 locations in the seven districts of Cartagena.

In addition, the XXXIII edition of the Antonio Oliver Belmás Poetry Prize, of great renown within both national and international poetic news, has been convened.

This year's jury's ruling will take place on November 18.
