Before the "carelessness" of the Government, MC denounces the "unworthy" state of the Carmen Conde Board of Trustees facilities (12/08/2019)

Ricardo Segado: "We will demand that this inoperance cease and safeguard, with the dignity it deserves, an essential heritage for Cartagena"

MC Cartagena will demand, during the ordinary plenary session of the Municipal Corporation to celebrate next September 5, that the state of neglect and deterioration in which the Carmen Conde - Antonio Oliver Board of Trustees is located.

At the end of last July, a researcher and member of the Board of Trustees of the Carmen Conde Board of Trustees - Antonio Oliver sent to this municipal Group a letter denouncing the situation of the facilities of this board, which is under the protection of the City Council of Cartagena and whose presidency is held by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón.

The Councilor of MC Cartagena, Ricardo Segado, explained that "the complaint of the investigator includes terms such as 'unworthy', 'neglect', 'abandonment' or 'deplorable', thus reflecting the poor conditions in which the facilities are located and , therefore, the legacy of Carmen Conde and Antonio Oliver, of whom this City Council is the custodian. "

A long list of deficiencies

Given this situation, the mayor said, "we will transfer to the Plenary the neglect and deterioration of the infrastructure and dependencies of the Carmen Conde-Antonio Oliver archive, where researchers must fight as they can heat, because there is no air conditioning and they are reached temperatures of almost 30 ° and very high humidity, even when there is a fading on the part of the administrative technician, there is also no hope with the arrival of next winter, because the existing heater does not work and looks like an ornament. The researchers must also fight against a plague of mosquitoes whose focus is on the entrance door to the archive, having to carry even insecticide. "

Mowing has shown that "the existing high humidity, of about 70%, endangers the conservation of the rich legacy of the distinguished writer. Thus, according to a technician who went to measure the temperature and humidity in the room, "The file is at total risk of decomposition." In addition there is a window with broken glass, which represents a real risk of possible theft or damage of the contents stored there. "

The list of deficiencies is endless: poor and uncomfortable furniture, shortage of personnel that prevents a continuous and uninterrupted opening of the facilities, having only an administrative one whose absences are not covered, due to possible casualties or vacations.

Castejón endangers an essential legacy for Cartagena

The brief also refers to the need to address the XXV anniversary of the creation of the Board of Trustees, urging them to work in a consensual manner to commemorate and celebrate the founding of this body.

Finally, Ricardo Segado recalled that "our training presented an amendment to the municipal budgets of 2018, which was approved by the Government of Castejón, to adapt Las Graduadas as a musealized space for the history of teaching and writing in Cartagena, that would have allowed the transfer of the headquarters of this Board and its exhibition space to this building. "

"Unfortunately, Castejón ignored this amendment, like many others, and now it jeopardizes the legacy of Carmen Conde, so during the next plenary session we will demand that this inoperance cease and safeguard, with the dignity it deserves, an essential heritage for Cartagena" , concluded by affirming the councilman cartagenerista.
