Some 2,000 runners gathered on Saturday June 27 at the eleventh edition of the Cross of Cabo de Palos.

This test, included in the popular racing league 'Running Challenge', is organized by the La Manga Athletics Club, in collaboration with the City Council of Cartagena and the City Council of San Javier, through their respective Sports Department, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena UPCT and the Athletics Federation of the Region of Murcia.

This sporting event with a 6.5-kilometer course, where participants ran next to the lighthouse and the cliffs until they reached Paseo Dimas Ortega, known as the Paseo del Puerto, was attended by the vice mayor of Cartagena and councilor for Sports, Noelia Arroyo, the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, the Councilor for Sports, Diego Ortega, the president of the La Manga Athletics Club, Norberto Martín and the Vice Chancellor for UPCT Students, Sergio Amat.

The tests of baby, juvenile and child began around 6:30 p.m., giving the victory to Daniel Bernabéu and Eva María Sánchez, in the children's category, while in juvenile, the winners were Manuel Martínez and Lidia Martínez.

In the men's absolute category, the winner was the young Cartagena from Zacarías Rqiq, with a record of 21:17, followed by Víctor Alejandro Requena and Antonio Lorente.

In the women's category, Ana Isabel Cánovas was the one who picked up the replica of the Cabo de Palos Lighthouse on the podium, beating her opponents Isabel Fernández and Elena Alcantud.

After the race, the runners had the usual physiotherapy service and tasted Asian coffees and melons at the finish.

In addition, as a novelty, music equipment was installed at various points in the race and Hidrogea was responsible for the waste management of this sporting event.

It should be noted that everything collected with the inscriptions will go to solidarity organizations of the Region.

Last year, 7,000 euros were delivered, which are added to those of more than 50,000 euros raised in the last ten years.

More than a hundred people from Local Police, Civil Protection and the Sports Medicine Center of the City Council of Cartagena and the Murcia Health Service watched over the safety of the runners on the route.

Also another 50 people collaborated in the rest of the needs of the race.
