The golden voice of Africa, Salif Keita, receives the prize of the Sea of ​​Music (23/07/2019)

This Monday, July 22, the El Batel Municipal Auditorium hosted two activities framed within the La Mar de Música festival.

The first of these was the awarding of the XXV edition, which this year went to Salif Keita, the golden voice of Africa.

While the second was the official opening of the exhibition 'Not only, but also' (not only, but also), designed by Cartagena architects Pepo Devesa and Mario Méndez.

Both activities have been attended by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón and the councilors of the municipal corporation, David Martínez, Carlos Piñana and Alejandra Gutiérrez.

The artist from Mali, Salif Keita, communicated a few months ago that he was going to retire at least from the recording studios, at the same time that he was launching what will be his last work 'Un Autre Blanc', a song unlike who He has transformed the music of the African continent through his albums.

His professional career is a constant fight against prejudices in and outside Africa in his defense of the population with albinism, a condition caused by the absence of melanin pigmentation in the skin, which he suffers.

Thanks to his career, his music and his fight for the African continent he has made this year receive the prize of the Cartagena festival

The prize La Mar de Música that this year will receive Salif Keita has already been collected in other editions by Toto la Momposina, Oumou Sangaré, Susana Baca, Cheick Lô, Pablo Milanés, Omara Portuondo and Gino Paoli.

After receiving the award, the singer delighted the audience and with his music and voice he transported them to the African continent.

INAUGURATION EXHIBITION 'NOT ONLY, BUT ALSO'

The Exhibition Hall of the Municipal Auditorium El Batel last night hosted the official opening of the exhibition of La Mar de Arte 'Not only, but also', a sample that can be visited until August 30.

'Not only, but also' covers a part of the history of the festival, from its beginning in 1995, with no more than ten guest artists, until its XXV edition, with the now essential program of the Mar Chica, de Arte, de Letras or Cinema

Through a sound map, they will be introduced little by little in the objects of this exhibition.

Photographs, catalogs, official festival posters and many other pieces make up this exhibition, designed by Cartagena architects Pepo Devesa and Mario Méndez.

The sample is divided into two interrelated parts.

On the left, there is the graphic part, while on the right, attendees will find five audiovisual booths and a sound booth.

One of the novelties of the exhibition is that depending on the day, a different music will sound, which will make the public want to return to the exhibition to know what will be the next day.
