The Office of European Projects of the UPCT has managed more than 13 million euros in the decade that has been running (17/07/2019)

The European Projects Office of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has managed more than 13 million euros of European programs during the decade that has been running.

Since 2009, the Office has secured 50 projects, of which 18 have coordinated. European funding programs include Horizon 2020, the Life program, Erasmus + and the Interreg Sudoe program.

To celebrate the anniversary, the heads of the Office of European Projects have held a technical conference with the participation of researchers in which they have explained the objectives of the Office, its evolution, as well as the achievements made throughout this decade. functioning.

The day was inaugurated by the Rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz, the General Director of Universities, Juan Monzó, and the General Director of the European Union, External Action and Cooperation, Manuel Pleguezuelo.

During the act, the Rector has shown the "pride" that for him represents that the UPCT have a European Projects Office because the results show the involvement of researchers and Administration and Services Staff in promoting applications for European projects and that the investigation supposes a "return" as much for Spain as for the Region.

For their part, both general managers have highlighted the "consolidation" of the Office and the visibility of participating in European projects.

In addition, they have stressed that according to the Accountability Report, from 2015 to 2017, the number of accepted projects increased by 200% and fundraising by 375%.

The Office was created in 2009 as a support service for the University's research groups to help them with administrative and bureaucratic procedures to obtain and manage European funds.

Through this objective, they have explained during the day, contributing to the globalization of the UPCT globally by consolidating its research prestige and contributing value to society through the results of the developed projects.

In this regard, the participation of the UPCT in the Horizon 2020 program, the largest research and innovation program in the European Union whose objective is to ensure the global competitiveness of Europe, stands out.

In this sense, the UPCT has had a success rate of 23% with a request for 66 projects and the concession of 15 of them.

In addition, among the projects that have stood out during this decade are the European project Irriman-Life, which raises strategies to promote sustainable risk, Diverfarmin, for the diversification of crops or the recovery of Talban garbancillo.

On the other hand, the Office, which thanks all the staff for their involvement.

has actively collaborated in the creation of the Committee of Ethics in Research, in the development of the II Plan of Equality and in the Technical Commission for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
