The Cartagena Folk Festival presents the schedule and schedule of its X edition (26/06/2019)

The Cartagena Folk Festival presents the schedule and schedule of its X edition, to be held during the 5th, 6th and 7th of July, in the Port of Cartagena.

This festival that began in 1999 (until 2004), and that was recovered in 2016, has always been characterized as a festive event with an innovative essence, in which new groups and artists of national and international folk music can show the new tendencies of re-elaboration of the root music.

So it was in its beginnings and so it is in this new stage in which, in addition, music is brought closer to the public with an enclosure located on the Explanada del Puerto de Cartagena.

A space in which free concerts are interspersed with entertainment groups, DJs, children's concerts, crafts and a restaurant space consisting of striking food Trucks and Food Trucks (old vans restored to make and sell these products) , which achieve a very important convening power, bringing together thousands of people, and placing the Port of Cartagena as a nerve center not only of the city, but of the entire Region during the days it is celebrated.

The recovered Cartagena Folk festival, has concluded, in these three past editions, with great success, sometimes gathering thousands of people throughout the weekend at the site.

A constant racking of the public that makes this event the most important in the Region in those days.

With the recovery of the festival, the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena managed to return to the city one events that in the past more popular roots and support found at the beginning of the last decade (2001-2004), which had ministerial support through the INJUVE, and that brought to Cartagena some of the most important formations of this type of music in Europe.

The idea that encourages the Department of Culture is to turn this event into one of the references of regional and national Folk.

For the opening of Recinto del Puerto on July 5, we will have another one of the great groups of the regional folk scene, Malvariche, one of the bands that with the recovery and reworking of traditional songs with a traditional base, have marked the evolution of folk of our country, with its mix of rock and folk.

Malvariche will bring all the strength and liveliness of his melodies and compositions, with a repertoire in which certainly will not miss some of his greatest hits as 'Bichogüey' or the version of Pablo Guerrero 'It must rain'.

We will also have an exhibition of the Abadá Capoeria Group, in which they will show different techniques and dances of this mix of dance and Brazilian martial art, with live music.

On Saturday 6 the festival will have what is undoubtedly one of the highlights of this edition, the Madrid group Colectivo Panamera, one of the bands with the greatest projection in the panorama of fusion music, which intermingles and refreshes in a fresh way the most beloved rhythms on the other side of the Atlantic: from the cumbia to the calypso, going through the rumba and the carnivalito, with a rock dressing.

The Collective deploys fun, dance and good vibes without restraint.

Thanks to this electrifying staging, in less than a year, they have already covered practically the whole of Spain, leaving behind thousands of Panatrópicos plugged into their sounds of miscegenation.

We will also have the Catalans Mista Btista els Speed & Friends, who will perform on Saturday at half-day, with the intention of giving atmosphere to the gastronomic and craft fair during a time when many tourists pass through the Port of Cartagena.

It is a group from Girona that takes as musical starting point the Anglo-Saxon sounds of Celtic music, to elaborate a fun and overwhelming proposal.

On Saturday afternoon we will also have a concert aimed at family audiences and especially children, it is the multi-award-winning show Fuman Musicoloco.

A show in which music is interspersed with juggling, clowning and lots of humor.

On Sunday for the closing of the festival we will have the Murcia Oh Brother, a band that through the American folk sounds elaborate a proposal in which there are sounds and country songs and classic folk in the style of Bob Dylan himself.

In addition, during the whole weekend we will have the DJ Sedo Mestizo specialist in ethnic sounds, and developing different animations and parades to the Brazilian percussion group D'Akokán and the bagpipes band Celticue.
