The Night of San Juan was settled in the municipality of Cartagena with numerous incidents, none of them seriously, by the launching of pyrotechnic devices, bonfires and clashes between youth gangs that were controlled by the local police and fire services.

The Councilor for Public Safety, Public Road and Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, accompanied during the day responsible for these two bodies, which had established a special device foreseeing the usual incidents that are recorded during this night.

The main incidents occurred again in La Vaguada and the Polígono Residencia del Santa Ana, where 20 complaints against young people were registered for neglecting the instructions of the agents, throwing firecrackers and wheelbarrows and causing disorder.

In the Polígono de Santa Ana, the Local Police had to intervene with the security service of the residential and Civil Guard troops, to avoid a confrontation between gangs that pyrotechnic devices were launched with danger.

The agents managed to make up to ten seizures of non-approved material.

The Firemen on the other hand made some 40 interventions related to the night of San Juan.

The most abundant were fires in containers that were counted 22 in different areas: as Santa Lucia, the Bohío, Garden City, Peral neighborhood, New Cartagena, Los Barreros, El Ensanche and La Vaguada.

They also had to choke seven conatos in bushes and hedges and three in trees and palm trees, caused by the launching of firecrackers, rockets or wheelbarrows.

Among them, the hedge located on Avenida Trovero Marín where the sculptures of Carthaginians and Romans are located.

Because of the danger involved, they had to put out three bonfires in Vista Alegre, Barrio de la Concepción and Santa Lucía.

In this last neighborhood some young people came to throw stones against municipal vehicles.

In spite of the incidents, the citizens were able to celebrate the night of San Juan one more year around the bonfires and in the company of the youngest children, in a magical day that marks the beginning of school holidays and the arrival of summer.
